Manfrotto MVMXPRO500US overview

  • 1Description

The MVMXPRO500US XPRO Monopod from Manfrotto is a 4-section aluminum video support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base and a 500-series fluid tilt head.

A versatile kit for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, the MVMXPRO500US can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The 4-section design, paired with an aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport setup weighing just 4.6 lb. With a maximum height of 79.9" and a minimum height of just 30.7", the MVMXPRO500US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple, the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPRO500US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod. The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

The MVMXPRO500US also includes a modified 500 series fluid head which allows the user to tilt their camera forward and backward on a counter-balanced mechanism. The head may be used while moving freely or locked in place via a side-mounted knob. Control of the head is facilitated by a single, long control arm which may be adjusted to the height of the user. A 500-series quick release plate is also included, allowing for quick vertical mounting and dismounting of your camera or camcorder.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is provided under the 500 series head should the user choose to use the monopod without a head for direct camera mounting.

    Manfrotto MVMXPRO500US reviews

MVMXPRO500US XPRO Aluminum Video Monopod is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stable, sturdy, smooth Manfrotto has done a nice job to build this monopod to be lightweight, with smooth movements. It is versatile in that the head is removable, as is the 3 foot base, turning it into a photo monopod. The movement of the fluid head is pretty good. The 3 foot base tends to loosen after a lot of use, and I found that it has to be tightened periodically. This is the only drawback I can see. The tabs used to lengthen the monopod are a very nice design with the ability to change the height with one hand. There is a bubble level on the fluid head as well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice! I struggled with picking out a monopod. I finally decided on this one. It was likely due to Peter McKinnon recommending it on his YouTube account. So far I've loved it. I can't compare it to another, but so far the footage I've gotten with it has been great (for me) and I'm looking forward to seeing what my and this monopod can do as I improve. Nice mechanics on the foldout legs, the ball joint has a nice lock, unlock mechanism, the quick release levers work well and the fluid head on top is nice and smooth. Oh, the grip on the main body of the monopod is nice. You can use it a bit like a Glidecam. Give it a try.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The panning is dreadfully disappointing Maybe I just got a lemon, but the panning on this monopod is terrible, unpredictable and completely unreliable. I've used a Manfrotto 560B and an MVM500A for over 8 years now, really put them through the ringer in my work and they always performed wonderfully; I can't recommend them enough. But they both used a cartridge system for panning, but this new XPRO system has the ball joint responsible for tilting AND panning, and it doesn't work well at all. Whereas the old cartridge system was extremely reliable, I can never predict what the tension on the pan will be, and oftentimes it will fluctuate in mid-pan. The tilt-lock mechanism is a great idea, but if I have it enabled, I can't pan the camera without the camera jumping or skipping. Sometimes it feels really tight, and then other times it feels so loose I think something has come undone or unscrewed. I unscrewed the base to see if something was wrong, and it looks like one of the metal washers is all twisted and bent- perhaps that's the culprit? For a while I kept thinking it was operator error and that I was doing something wrong because all my Manfrotto products have been so reliable, but I think it's the monopod fluid base that's the problem. I really want to love this monopod and everything else about it is wonderful, but if I can't reliable pan the camera, what good is it? Is anyone else having this issue?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light and strong'; well designed I am using this with a very heavy super 35 cine camera/lens combo over 30 lbs. It's quite strong and very light. The foot pivot works well and the head is useful but does not have a progressive tilt drag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as Good As the Older Models This is the 3rd version of the monopod that Ive owned, its a bit different than previous generations but I must say for a videographer such as myself that uses DSLR's mainly this is a must have. My only issues include the plate being rather larger for a Panasonic FZ-1000, sometimes the plate gets in the way with manual focus. Also the new locking mechanism for the legs is a nice touch but can be hard to lock or unlock if your in a hurry. Aside from that, this is a great piece to own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! My First MonoPod... Ok. This is my first monopod and I have to say I am amazed with all the smooth footage I was able to accomplish with this thing. I am just amazed on the smoothness that it provided to all my videos, and the flexibility with it being able to pivot is amazing. The fluid head is sooooooo smooth, I know I said smooth already but that is exactly what they should have called it SMOOTHPOD. Total recommendation...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the investment Manfrotto or nothing. I stand by their products. You pay more but its worth it. This Monopod holds my Panasonic AG-AC130a with ease. (5 pounds give or take) Fluid pan / tilt motion. The quick release plate is compatible with my Manfrotto tripod making for easy quick transition when seconds count. Its built strong. Slightly heavier than what im accustom to but my other monopod was trash. Beware of pinching your self in the locking mechanisms. I would have liked a carrying bag for the money. Overall a great addition to my gear.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from would not recommend for stand alone recording Very disappointing for what I bought it for. It has great height at 6'7 but at that height you can't leave it alone or it will definitely fall over! the Feet at the bottom of tripod is too small! you can't tell from advertisement. If it could stand on its own, it would have been great for your secondary camera at a wedding but now you'll need another person holding it. The good thing is it's very solidly built, I had confidence video taping, holding it above everyones head on the dance floor at weddings.
