Manfrotto XPRO Overview

The MVMXPROA4US XPRO Video Monopod+ from Manfrotto is a versatile aluminum support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base—a unique monopod foot which allows for fluid pans and tilts normally unachievable on a standard photo monopod.

A handy tool for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, a monopod can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The MVMXPROA4US features a 4-section design which, when paired with its aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport design weighing just 2.6 lb. With a maximum height of 75.6" and a minimum height of just 26.8", the MVMXPROA4US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPROA4US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod.

The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is placed at the top of the monopod in the center of the baseplate, allowing users to either, direct mount a camera or lens, or use an articulating head if required.

Then in the distance I heard the Bulls Bugling. I began running as fast as I could. Fortunatly I had my Manfrotto MPMXPROC4US Carbon Fiber XPRO Monopod+ to stand in for my wooden leg.

This thing is indestructible! I've taken it on about 50 commercial shoots and each time it operates as expected. No issues at all.

I love this monopod. It's perfect for doc shooting. Very easy to use, reliable. This is my second one and Manfrotto has added a locking collar to the bottom to increase stabilization to get that locked down look, though you can't walk away while doing it. Highly recommend!

Sturdy but light

I find this monopod larger than I am used to as a still photographer, but as a videographer is a perfect size for holding a rigged-out DSLR and shooting bands without having to move around very much. It provides good stabilization while moving around.

Worked great for a bit, then completely broke

I am a wedding videographer, and have used Manfrotto gear for a few years now. This monopod has been incredible, I have multiple, but this particular one from B&H must have either had something wrong with it or the monopod itself was not nearly as well made as I thought. I have my Canon 5D Mark IV with a 50 mm 1.2 lens on it at a wedding, filming the cake cutting, when I went to turn the monopod, the bottom feet 'joint' which attached it to the pole completely came off. We tried placing it back on before realizing it was the screw on the inside that had broken in half. How? I could not tell you. All we do is stand and have it hold a camera, nothing crazy, not on mountains or uneven surfaces or doing any crazy style filming for it to literally break in half. I am very upset about this purchase because I have loved Manfrotto for years and have always said it has the best quality, I tried calling to let them know, and they did not seem to care one bit. Unfortunate.

I needed a monopod that would be easy to travel with and this breaks down nicely into my carry on bag.

Can this be used with a gimbal to get overhead video?
Asked by: Alan
I don't know of any gimbal attachment but I do use it for overhead shots and it works great. Gimbals are way over rated and besides if you have the monopod in the air you need the camera angled at what you are shooting which is usually downward so you wouldn't want to use a gimbal. It has a good extension, you need to triple check that your camera is tightened down really well so it doesn't fall.
