Manfrotto XPRO Overview

The MVMXPROA5US XPRO Video Monopod+ from Manfrotto is a versatile aluminum support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base—a unique monopod foot which allows for fluid pans and tilts normally unachievable on a standard photo monopod.

A handy tool for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, a monopod can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The MVMXPROA5US features a 5-section design which, when paired with its aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport design weighing just 2.4 lb. With a maximum height of 60.2" and a minimum height of just 20.7", the MVMXPROA5US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPROA5US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod.

The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is placed at the top of the monopod in the center of the baseplate, allowing users to either, direct mount a camera or lens, or use an articulating head if required.

I do nature photography, can I put a rubber or spike foot on the bottom and use as a hiking staff?
Asked by: Dick
Sure it’s possible. Not sure I would want to risk damaging the monopod as it’s not designed to be used as hiking stick. Also it will be substantially heavier and more cumbersome than a walking stick.

How wide is the round camera base on top? Is it excessively large? Because I use monopods under my gimbal and a huge base plate is a problem.
Asked by: Caleb
I use this monopod under my gimbal several times a week shooting my videos. Easy to attach to gimbal base. Camera base on monopod is just right size for me. Monopod is a great extension for my gimbal, giving me additional height for certain shots.
