Nikon PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED Overview

Complementing the mechanical layout of the lens is an apt optical design, which includes three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. Both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to individual elements to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast in strong lighting conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been added to the front and rear elements to guard against dust, moisture, and smudging.

Perspective control, tilt-shift lens affords +/- 12mm of shift and +/- 7.5° of tilt, and both types of movements can be applied independently, and parallel or perpendicular to one another. Additionally, 90° rotation is possible left and right, with stops at 30° intervals, and the tilting mechanism can also rotate 90° left with a stop at 45° to suit shooting in the vertical orientation.
Shift movement does not require locking or unlocking during use.
Three extra-low dispersion elements help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
A pair of aspherical elements control spherical aberrations in order to lessen distortion and increase sharpness from edge to edge.
Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.
Fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements afford protection to the optical system.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability and accuracy.

This mechanism limits the compatibility of this lens to the following cameras: D5, D4, D3 series, Df, D850, D810, D810A, D800/E, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300/S, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100, and Nikon Z7/Z6 with FTZ.

Super sharp all round. I'm curious why some folks say it's not. Adaptored it onto my Leica sl2 with the Novoflex Nikon E to L Adaptor and works great.

Fine lens

Certainly expensive but outstanding. I use this with the Z7 .... wonderful image files. Obviously a specialized lens that takes practice to use well, but the results are worth the time and effort. Work slowly / deliberately / thoughtfully and ..... protect that front element!

EXCELLENT.

First of all, my apologize to B&H. I made a huge mistake. I did not order my new lens from B&H. Not ordering this lens from B&H was a total nightmare.(Lesson well learned). The lens itself is behind excellent. We have all of the NIKOR PCE lenses, and this 19mm is just off the wall perfect. I’m utilizing the NiSi S-5 filter system with this baby, and I’m in love with photography all over again. Holly smokes, get ready for some amazing images. And again B&H, I learned my lesson well. Thanks for years of excellent service..

Worth the wait!

When I was still shooting film, my favorite camera with the 4x5 with all of the lens tilts, swings and shifts.   I simply enjoyed the deliberate and methodical process of framing the image, adjusting perspective and setting the focus plane.  This lens doesnt have all of the versatility of the view camera lens, but it enables compositions, perspective control and panoramas that are not easily duplicated with normal lenses, unless you take multiple images and stitch together in post processing.  SO, the manual features of this lens dont bother me at all -- I enjoy it!   While expensive, this lens has excellent optical performance -- very sharp throughout the frame, very low CA and no vignetting when shifted.   It is also mechanically superb and smooth operating with independent of adjustment of tilt and shift.  Well done Nikon!!

I also own the Nikkor 24mm f/3.5 tilt-shift lens. This 19mm tilt-shift lens is much more versatile with its independent tilt and shift capabilities. I will continue using the 24mm lens in dusty conditions or when I need filters.

question

What are the limitations of the lens using the D750?
Asked by: Anonymous
The limitations with the D750 would be that some combinations of shift and rotation may not be available due to the lens contacting the camera body.

I have a Z7, and wonder if users feel that the sharpness/resolution of this PC lens is in the same league as the 46 MP sensor of the Z7 or D850? I would really appreciate hearing a D850 or Z7 owner comment on their experience with this lens in that regard. Thanks!
Asked by: Mark
You would have no issues using a lens such as this on your Z7 and having it result in a reduction in sharpness/resolution. The images still come out extremely sharp with no detriment to resolution.

Am thinking of getting hold of this lens but one question. For example, from your experience, when shooting interiors, how do you minimize glare when you can't put a CPL on the lens? Appreciate you thoughts on this. And thanks in advance.
Asked by: Zon Hisham
Hold something to make sure harsh light isn't hitting the lens. You could also pick the time of the day when light points away from your lens.

Is this lens compatible with teleconverters 1.4 and 1.7? Will they work together to replace the PC-E 24mm lens in this way? Or is it easier to use a 19mm lens in DX mode?
Asked by: Andrey
This lens does not take teleconverters , and the easiest way is to crop to what you need , other then getting PC-E24
