Some paid services have free or cheap rates. Phone Power gives 30 free minutes a month to overseas. Canada is always free.

question

can I keep my current phone number?
Asked by: Anonymous
If you use another provider other than Google, you can usually have your phone ported directly to that. We've had Phone Power for a couple years because it has E911 and other features for much less than Spectrum Cable's VoIP. We ported our phone number that we've had for 44 years and no longer pay Verizon big bucks.
