Lenovo P510 overview

  • 1Description

The P Series ThinkStation P510 Workstation from Lenovo is powered by a Xeon E5-1650 v4 six-core processor that operates at 3.6 GHz. If you need more power, the CPU can deliver extra performance by increasing the clock speed up to 4 GHz utilizing Intel's Turbo Boost technology. To run multiple applications simultaneously, the workstation comes equipped with 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 ECC RAM.

For long-term storage of your files, this P Series ThinkStation P510 Workstation is equipped with a 1TB 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" hard drive. If you want to add external storage drives or other peripherals, the P510 features eight USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, and one 9-pin serial port. For users who wish to add additional components to the drive bays, there are four internal 3.5" drive bays and two external 5.25" drive bays. The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro M2000 graphics card delivers a sharp, clear picture. Whether you are listening to music, watching a movie, or playing a game, the integrated Realtek ALC662 audio controller outputs high definition audio and delivers higher fidelity than standard audio controllers.

    Lenovo P510 reviews

P Series ThinkStation P510 Workstation with Xeon E5-1650 v4 Processor is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent single CPU workstation with caveats I bought this to upgrade and downsize from an HP Z820 with a single E5-2630 v2 processor. The noise of the HP became more annoying over time, and my needs changed so I moved from a dual-socket to a single-socket CPU system. The P510 arrived with a Quadro M2000 video card which I promptly replaced with a GTX 1070: it fits perfectly (ASUS Strix card). Note that an 8-pin molex to 6-pin molex adapter will be required for this switch. Unfortunately, the P510 did not ship with the front chassis cooling fan for the video card so I had to order one separately. Minus one star. The unit shipped with Windows 7 allowing Windows 10 upgrade rights. Upgrading bricked the system and I had a harrowing time of it for awhile. I eventually got it to work after messing with the BIOS, reinstalling twice, and uttering prayers. Oh, remember to update Lenovo's drivers after upgrading or stuff just won't work (like all drives not detected)! The system is quiet, but not silent. PCIe NVMe SSDs work right out of the box. Cooling is adequate but not in the same league as the Z820. The routing of SATA and power connectors to the drive bays is ridiculous. The big mess of wires in the graphics bay looks ugly and it impedes airflow. Lenovo supplies only ONE SATA cable (for the boot drive). If you want to add more drives to the bays you're going to have to buy SATA cables. Make sure to buy cables with right-angled SATA connectors as straight connectors may prevent the case lid from closing. SATA connection direct to the motherboard is only available on Lenovo's higher end Thinkstations. This unit has roughly 6 SATA connectors on the board. The HP Z820 has 16, lol. On the bright side, the unit is fast and has been purring along nicely after the initial foibles (disasters). The Lenovo Thinkstation case appearance is far nicer than HP's case imo. Mac users switching to the PC will be in for a rude awakening: a smooth ride (at the beginning) this is not.
