Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have done this sooner- skip all that USB nonsense! The Thunderbolt drive is much, much, much faster than a USB drive. It is like a built-in disk drive. Works great for Lightroom photos and Lightroom catalogs. I have an older MacBook Pro which has an SSD (very fast) but it is not large enough to contain all of my pictures and the catalog(s). This Thunderbolt drive is like an internal drive and you NEVER see a delay based on the disk drive. I wonder why I waited so long! Obviously, I back up everything to a file server, but this thing moves between my MacBook Pro laptop and my iMac 27 screen with such ease. A formal job will start on the iMac, but something quick can be done on the laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THESE LACIE RUGGEDS JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER I have been in the video production business for over 35 years and started purchasing LaCie when they first came on the market many years ago. I have many LaCie Ruggeds that I use for video editing. They are rock solid and are 100% dependable. Out of all of the Rugged drives I own I have NEVER had any problem with any of them. You cannot beat the reliability of a LaCie drive. I would like to see them available in the 5-10GB range in the near future. When I turn my Mac Pro on in the mornings and after my screens come up they then light up with LaCie Rugged Icons. It is a beautiful sight. I love them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thunderbolt Connectivity, NOT Thunderbolt Speed. I'm using this drive with a Windows 7 system. Both the thunderbolt and usb3.1 work fine but what you need to understand is that you're getting thunderbolt connectivity, not thunderbolt speed. In copying a project of about 240gig, I was plugged directly into the thunderbolt port of my raid 0 Lacie5big and the transfer speed was comparable to usb3 (60meg/sec average). It never approached thunderbolt speed. For me, this is not an issue as usb3 speed is plenty adequate for my needs and the thunderbolt does allow me to patch directly into the Lacie5big. If you need thunderbolt speed, this is not the drive for you. I do love the rubber orange protection as I managed to drop the drive on a concrete floor taking it out of the packing, the drive suffered no problems from the drop.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good product ... until you need help with it. I had one LaCie drive go down and I haven't been able to get customer support on it. Seagate apparently has taken over the company and you can't get a person on the phone. Try getting customer service online and you're only left spinning in community forums.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rugged but slow and expensive I purchased this hard drive a few weeks ago as a backup HD. Rugged part is true, hard drive is made tough, very nice piece of hardware. Its speed is subpar to say the least. It is connected to my iMac via Thunderbolt cable and it still is much slower than OWC's Mercury on-the-go Pro connected via USB 3.0 cable. Lacie hard drive is also much more expensive than OWC's 2TB hard drive. I am going to stick to OWC's hard drives in the future for a speed and a good price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great travel disk I am looking to replace my old laptop with a new ultrabook. As a photographer I needed some additional storage since ultrabooks are light, small and rugged but limited in storage. This device adds a lot of storage for images and data that can be easily linked to my larger systems when at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2TB Rugged Thunderbolt Mobile HD fast and reliable Fast, reliable and portable. Suggest to use it with the lightening connector. I always completely reformat and test a new drive before I put anything on it.
