Especial Cycling Messenger Bag 2015 (Medium, Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than my Chrome I have to say this is an excellent bag. I wanted a Chrome bag, liked how it looked and thought this bag had more of the features I like. In the end this blows the chrome bag away. The pockets in from hold a coffee or water bottle perfectly and away from laptop. Laptop compartment access from the back of bag is far more useful than one could imaging, keeps things safer from damage. Other front pocket for U lock. wallet and phone in small internal zip pocket. Groceries or gear in roomy main space. ANOTHER great thing is the air flow area that keeps your back from getting hot and sweaty when riding. 1 week old we'll see how it wears...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really fantastic bag and I tried others I ordered this bag along with a mission workship and bailey bag. The Mission workshop was a bit overdone and instantly uncomfortable - I didn't even try it out on the bike. The Bailey bag was great but did not have nearly the smart features of the Especial. This thing grips to your bag, all of the straps can be easily stowed and it doesn't seem to have any features that are unnecessary. I do wish it had a few more zippered internal storage pockets for small items that are always handy to have on you, but that is a minor concern. Overall this thing feels great on the bike and is also convenient for plane travel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Stylish and comfortable in spite of quick wear-and-tear I became a fan of Timbuk2 since I started using their messenger bags 9 years ago. My first Timbuk2 wore after 7 years of rugged usage, and it was with this in mind when I decided to get this stylish looking and supposedly durable Especial cycling messenger bag. Thus, I am pretty disappointed when the presumably "abrasion resistant nylon exterior" starts to wear out after 1 year of use. The exterior of my bag now has flakes of nylon tearing off bit by bit. Having said all that, the bag serves it's primary function well, and the other traits of the bag are very much justified. For one, I like the magnetic straps design, and even though the nylon exterior wearing off, the bag is still very much water proof.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I miss the pre-2015 model I bought my first especial messenger bag in 2014. It was bulletproof, and I abused the heck out of it. It wasn't overly stylish, but it was completely functional and incredibly comfortable. I used and abused it every day in every weather for four years and it still looked just about new. Unfortunately it wasn't theft-proof, so I needed to replace it after it got stolen. The new design is much less functional. The sloping sides may look good, but it makes it difficult to be used to carry larger items. On the old model there were very sturdy handles on every side and that was incredibly useful. I miss the true bike messenger bag design. While the design may be much more stylish, it's lost the core of the design that made this bag so very good. I've given my new Especial to my father-in-law and will go looking for another brand of bike messenger bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The real deal This is the grown-up's bag. Understated, waterproof, almost bulletproof and it looks the part. The M I got was smaller than I expected. Since it's made of a less malleable material, it feels smaller than a regular bag when trying to accommodate certain items. Main snag: a small, fast access keys/iphone pocket would be handy (perhaps on the cover flap?). The 'Napoleon' zippers on the front pockets are great only if the bag is full - when it's not, the top folds closed (which is great to keep the water out) and hides the tops of the zippers. Could also do with an external water bottle pocket, but can live without.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautifully Made Bag Really well made and thought out bag. I have the large, which holds a 15 inch laptop nicely. I only have two criticisms. First, the shoulder strap is perfect for use as a cycling messenger, but it would be great if the pad could be slid to the center for an over the shoulder carry. Second, the magnetic latches work extremely well, but the design of the buckles doesn't make it at all obvious how they get released. I had to go online and search for a video to find out how to open the bag. There is nothing about the design of the buckles that indicates the kind of sliding motion that is needed to release them. As an industrial designer, this really bugs me. That being said, once you know how they work the buckles are very easy to lock and release.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super waterproof but limited pocket space I spilled 16 ounces of water into the main compartment and it did not get my computer wet in the laptop compartment. Win. The pad on the strap is sewn in so it cannot slide up and down the strap. This also means you can only wear it right handed, which is fine for cycling but annoying for daily use. Other bags by Timbuk2 have a sliding pad, which I recommend for increased comfort. No organizer pockets, just 2 medium sized outside pockets and inside laptop pocket with zipper front for papers etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from With all the bells ad whistles This bag does everything you need it too. I got the medium size and it's perfect for my iPad Pro and EDC. Big pockets not many little zip up type style pockets only one on the inside but I havnt needed those. This is a prectical bag that does what it needs to do. The parts where you need clever innovation is there. I thought the magnetic clips would be a bit rubbish but boy was I wrong. My only gripe if I had to be really picky is the clip on the strap to stop it dangling is good but feel like it could be better at holding on. But that's only really a problem when carrying it by hand. Kinda wish its was more like a pocket knife clip I geuss. I'm only being picky because of how great the rest of the bag is. Top marks all round
