Dell XPS9550-10000SLV Overview

  • 1Description

The 15.6" XPS 15 9550 Multi-Touch Laptop from Dell features a 15.6" InfinityEdge display with a 3840 x 2160 4K resolution and 5.7 mm thin bezels for your viewing pleasure. It's also a touchscreen so you'll be able to utilize touch gestures and commands in Windows 10 to further improve its accessibility and your productivity. Driven by a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics card with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM, the XPS 15 is capable of handling multimedia playback and even games. Connect external displays using its HDMI and Thunderbolt 3 port for additional multitasking capabilities.

Powered by a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad-Core processor and 16GB of 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM, the XPS 15 can efficiently multitask and quickly access frequently used files and programs. When handling a heavier workload, the CPU can reach up to 3.5 GHz thanks to Intel Turbo Boost technology. With two RAM slots, the XPS 15 can be upgraded even more, up to a max of 32GB. For storing your data and applications, this system has a 1TB PCIe SSD, which performs faster than a traditional hard drive, allowing you to boot up and load files in seconds. Should you need more room, you can connect external storage devices using its multiple USB ports and SD media card reader.

Access the Internet via 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi and pair compatible wireless peripherals via Bluetooth 4.1 technology to free up USB ports. Dual-Band Wi-Fi enables you to connect to the 5 GHz band, which is less crowded and offers faster speeds. Other integrated features include a 720p webcam, speakers, microphones, a 3.5 mm headphone and microphone combo jack, and a backlit keyboard. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

15" InfinityEdge Display
The XPS 15 features an InfinityEdge display with a 5.7 mm bezel for a seamless and immersive viewing experience. Additionally, with a 3840 x 2160 4K resolution, the XPS 15 offers crisp and clear visuals for your entertainment. Moreover, it features 100% minimum Adobe RGB, so you get a true representation of Adobe color that's rich, vivid, and bold. With the Dell's PremierColor application, webpages, videos, and images are automatically adjusted into Adobe RGB format for accurate colors.
Durable and Light
Built from a single block of aluminum for a sturdy, durable chassis, the XPS 15 also has a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass display. Furthermore, the palm rest is made from carbon fiber, which is strong, thin, light, and cool to the touch.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.
Built for Business
The XPS 15 comes preinstalled with a few applications and features that will help you along the way:

  • Dell Data Protection | Encryption - Protects data across multiple end-points. IT admins can remotely manage encryption policies to easily meet compliance regulations right out of the box.
  • Dell Data Protection | Protected Workspace - Keeps your information safe so that if an attack occurs the malware is sealed off and a safe environment is restored in only 20 seconds.
  • Dell Client Command Suite Compatibility - Free tools that help automate and streamline system deployment, monitoring, and updating in complex IT environments.
  • Dell Command | Update - Update easily without wasting time hunting and pecking.
  • Dell Command | Power Manager and Battery Extender Mode - Helps you prolong battery life when you need it most.
  • Dell Configuration and Deployment Services with Dell Imaging Services - Simplifies deployments with long lifecycles.
  • Dell KACE System Management solutions meet demanding IT management needs.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Dell XPS9550-10000SLV Reviews

    15.6- XPS 15 9550 Multi-Touch Laptop is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Maybe if they improve their, After the Sale. I record a lot of 4K videos and have been looking for a reliable playback laptop. This laptop seems to be good so far. My major complaint is that Dell hasn't written a Users Manual for this unit. The closest you can get is a generic writing that really does not apply, called My Laptop. Dell.com does have a service manual that covers taking the unit apart but NO specific manual for the XPS 15-9550. Also tech support is the worst! I spent a hour & half with 4 different tech support people who are ONLY interested in the S/N on the bottom (I believe that's how they get paid) but know nothing else about anything except giving you the run around. Dell is losing touch with it's customers and let go ALL of their tech writers to save money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great! (except for the sound issue) Would be a fantastic machine if it wasn't for an audio defect where the sound occasionally makes a popping/crackling sound (no matter if you're using the laptop speakers or audio jack). I bought 2 of these and both present this problem. Dell tells you to update the audio drivers but this does not solve the issue. Make sure that a 4K screen is actually what you need because some apps will not have optimized scaling for this resolution, resulting in an out-of-proportion display. On the plus side, the keyboard feels amazing and outer body has a nice metallic Macbook feel about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop! The service at B&H are pretty good! Shipment was quick...some confusion of time of delivery but it was still within the time of my expectation. The laptop has been a dream, so quick and built with such nice materials. I've used mostly Lenovo and the track point was something I've gotten used to...with the Dell's track pad, it's going to take a while to get used to. Dell xps15 is a great laptop size is great, screen is sharp, the weight is pretty heavy and the camera is not in the best place at the bottom of the screen near the keyboard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the build quality, and the exceptional 4k display. The screen, oh my! It's the best computer screen I've used so far, puts my iPad Pro's retina screen to shame. Vivid colour and high resolution gives me so much more desk space to work with. Computer performance is very good with the i7 processor, I don't feel any lacking when compared to my other desktop with last generation i7 processor. But being a multimedia PC, I am not doing a ton of processing power anyways. B&H has a lower price when compared with dell website, no tax, choice becomes obvious. I like their customer service department too, friendly and efficient. Overall, I would buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent computer I got this computer about two weeks ago and so far it's fantastic. I use it mainly for photo editing (photoshop and Lightroom) and it's really quick. Haven't found myself waiting for it to do something yet. And the screen is gorgeous. I think I actually need to turn down the saturation to match what others will see my photos as.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent laptop with minor issues I have just bought this laptop a few days ago, so I can only give my first impressions: 1. All the positive things that the people say about this laptop are true. It is very well built, it looks and feels very solid. The keyboard is very comfortable. The screen is very bright and very sharp, the touchscreen works just fine. 2. A small problem, which I encountered right out of the box was a slight flickering of the screen, which occured about every 20 seconds or so and was rather annoying. However I updated the BIOS and Intel's drivers and the problem was solved completely. 3. 4k screen - W10 set the scaling factor at 250% and to me it looks just fine. MS Office looks just fine, Chrome - no problem, Photoshop 2014 required manually changing the scale in its settings. Other Adobe products look fine (probably a little too small) without any additional adjustment. 4. At the normal load the laptop is a little bit warmer than the 17-inch Samsung that I used to have, still I see that most of my usual tasks I will be able to do with the computer on my lap and without any inconvenience. 5. I do not use much the touchpad, still I can observe that either I still lack some specific driver or software, or the possibilities of customization of its functions are rather limited. It seems that I can't even use it to go back or forward in a browser or reverse the direction of scrolling. I will have to investiate a little bit more about it. On the bright side - when I use it, it is very responsive, recognizes all the gestures without problem and does not get in the way when I am typing. So the bottomline - it's an excelent computer, I do not regret paying 2100 bucks for it. As any complex machine it may have its little quirks, but everything can be resolved quite easily. I really recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a perfect laptop I have been using the laptop for a couple of weeks now and I am completely satisfied with it. I use it for writing and other office tasks, some processing of photos in Lightroom and Photoshop and also some light gaming (old shooters mostly). Everything works just fine. The things I like about this machine is first of all its screen. The image is sharp and crystal clear, I cannot see the pixels even if look very close. The black color is much more black than on my previous 4 year old laptop. The touch screen is excelent, it didn't take me long to get used to it and now it feels like a really natural way to navigate. Also the whole interface of W10 gets its real meaning only when one uses it on a touch screen laptop. For my Adobe applications it is of little use, I still prefere using mouse and drawing tablet, but for everything else it is just perfect. The keyboard is ok, I didn't have any problem typing. The touchpad works ok also and (the most important for me) doesnt get in the way when I am typing. Battery life is way better than in any other laptop that I had used. Probably is someone wants to work the whole day without charging, the battery may not be enough, but for me the 6 hours are perfectly enough. The only negative thing is that right out of the box the screen was blinking like every 20 seconds or so, but after I updated all the drivers and the Bios, the problem was gone. In general I really enjoy this laptop, it is perfect for all the things I do and it is a very good buy, even though the price is still a little bit on the high side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not worth the money you put in I got this 2 weeks back . There is a lot of track pad/mouse lag as well as some driver issues . a lot of bloatware to get rid of . The thing i liked was the touchscreen 4k display . And although it has PCIE ssd i dont find any difference between a regular ssd and the current one . you can just hold of buying this and going to a better model .

    question

    Is it 2x8GB or 1 x 16GB memory?
    Asked by: Tran H.
It has 2 memory slots so 2x8Gb.However, wish I had bought Lenovo 15.6 inch Yoga 720 with its 7th gen, processor, 1060 graphics card, fine stylus touch (not thick finger), real 2 in 1, and was $250 cheaper. 500 Gb ssd more than good enough and a lot cheaper than 1Tb ssd.
