The white MPK mini MKII from Akai Professional is an ultra-compact keyboard controller designed for the traveling musician and the desktop producer. It features twenty-five velocity-sensitive synth-action keys, a four-way thumbstick for pitch and modulation manipulation, eight backlit velocity-sensitive MPC-style pads in two banks, and eight assignable Q-Link knobs. With an array of hardware controls, MPK mini allows for recording, composing, and performing whenever and wherever inspiration strikes.

Dedicated octave up and down buttons increase the keyboard to the full melodic range, and a sustain pedal input is built in for expressive playing and recording (pedal not included). An onboard arpeggiator with adjustable resolution, range, and modes makes it easy to create intricate melodic lines. Plus, MPC Note Repeat and Full Level allow users to access technologies from Akai Professional's line of MPC workstations.

Production software and virtual instruments are included for immediate music creation. Hybrid 3, by AIR Music Tech, is a high-definition synthesizer. SONiVOX's Wobble is an electronic music grime synthesizer featuring two independent channels of spectral morphing synthesis with harmonic controls, individual filtering, and discrete LFO controls. MPC Essentials is a groove/beat production and sample-triggering software that also runs in standalone mode for making music without a DAW.

Four memory banks can store hardware/software presets for quick and easy set up. The MPK mini MIDI Editor is preset management software that lets users customize their hardware and software setup on a Mac or Windows, create and tweak presets for favorite virtual instruments, plug-ins, and DAWs, and then store them on the controller. The controller requires no software drivers or external power adapter for operation. It supports plug-and-play connectivity, features USB-MIDI, and powers up with a single USB connection to a Mac or Windows computer.

MPK mini MKII - Compact Keyboard and Pad Controller (White) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great On-the-Go Keyboard This keyboard is perfect for production on-the-go. I keep it in my bag at all times in case I feel a wave of inspiration wash over me. I've used it with Logic Pro X and Ableton Live. For the price, this is a hard piece of gear to match. My only complaint is that the keys feel cheap. I've never actually had any problems with the keyboard and it works exactly as it should. The keys are smaller than regular sized keys, but to fit two octaves into a keyboard this small, some compromise had to be made. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a small keyboard for on-the-go purposes. If you're looking for a studio keyboard, I would recommend you save up a bit more $$$ and invest in something with 49+ keys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase ever This keyboard is awesome for the price and portability. I can put it in my backpack and take it anywhere. The Drum pads are an awesome add on that most keyboards dont have at this price range. I highly recommend this product if you are a beginner or intermidiate user. This mini keyboard pays off big.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from (Seemingly) Great unit, HORRIBLE SOFTWARE I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. The unit is compact and seems incredibly functional. The included software requires an activation online and subsequent download. I am incredibly computer literate, and it is not self-explanatory in the least. It required a YouTube video download just to understand what order to download the software and how to install it to get the unit to respond. Furthermore, my daughter was visiting for Christmas break and we did the install on my home computer. When she got back to school, she tried to reinstall it on her computer and it wouldn't let her. We're in the process of contacting the company to deactivate my version (since I don't have the unit) and activate it on her computer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would never buy another Akai product again My son and his friends sample sounds and beats, mix music and record. They all have some sort of machine. I figured I would add to the repertoire and buy him the Akai Mini for Christmas. Let's just say it was extremely disappointing. We spent a cumulative 10 hours trying to install, download software, register and operate this this with no success whatsoever. Smack in the middle of the 10 hours, the Akai website would not load, there was only an error code when trying to get to their website. Two and a half days later, the site was back up. Completely frustrated, I submitted a request for help through the Akai website which was left unanswered. A week later and the Akai Mini was never used, just repackaged and sent for return. Akai never again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mini, but Mighty Useful I bought this product for a couple reasons. 1 of them was size and portability. I wanted something that was useful, but also mobile. This Controller is about the size of a 15-17 laptop, so it can easily be stored in a back pack or set up in a small workspace. Since i am not a classically trained Pianist or have the dextarity for full sized keys, smaller sizes keys such as the ones found on this device highly appealed to me. Although, i feel like the action on the keys is a slight bit more stiff than I like, it is understandable that they aren't weighted like higher end keys, but that is to be expected. It will take some getting used to. I also purchased this controller because it featured a set of pads that will come in handy when creating drum beats. The overall design of this controller looks somewhat professional and fucntional. the feel of the knobs is a little light, and maybe a bit fragile, but I think they will last a while if i treat them well. The one piece that concerns me is the Red Knob on the top left. It sticks out from the face, and i worry that it might break if it gets roughed up in a backpack or in transit. The Rubber feet on the bottom of the device allow a firm and stable grip to a desk, so the device doesn't drift at all when playing or putting pressure on the keys, which is what you want. Overall, i am happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and convenient right out of the box The AKAI MPK MINI is a great small keyboard for general midi uses that do not require extensive programing. The minuses are the following: the keyboard is hard and springy; the USB connector is the old bigger-fat type. It is easy to use with GarageBand, no trouble recognizing the keyboard for GarageBand instruments.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Portable - I like it I got this about a month ago and so far I like it, wish it came with the software on a CD and profiles for Reason/FL where easier to find but its ok. Very good size, smaller than a laptop and fits into my gearslinger bag easily. Keys feel really good to be mini keys, and pads are very responsive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Akai MPK mini I was pleasantly surprised by the features of this small, affordable controller. It's certainly no full scale studio unit to wheel out in front of big name clients, but it's a fantastic way to dive in with pro level sound, controls and effects with a solid name backing up your purchase.
