  • 1Description

Connect a variety of Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0 Type-A, FireWire 800, Mini DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet, 3.5mm audio, and S/PDIF audio peripherals to your Mac running macOS 10.12 or later using the space gray 13 Port Thunderbolt 3 Dock from OWC / Other World Computing. This dock contains two bi-directional 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, each of which utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector and also supports 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2, allowing you to connect up to two 4K/60 Hz displays simultaneously, or one 5K Thunderbolt 3 display. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

To maintain compatibility with legacy devices, this dock also has five 5 Gb/s USB 3.0 ports, and one 800 Mb/s FireWire 800 port. The Mini DisplayPort shares the Thunderbolt 3 bus and allows a second display to be connected, while the 3.5mm audio in/out port allows external speakers, mics, and other audio equipment to be connected. Pro-grade digital audio output for a lossless signal transfer is accomplished using the S/PDIF output, network connectivity is achieved using the Gigabit Ethernet port, and the integrated SD card reader lets you download photos and videos from your digital camera or other device. Additionally, a power cable and 1.6' Thunderbolt 3 cable are included.

Please be aware that this dock is not compatible with Windows.

OWC / Other World Computing OWCTB3DK13PSG reviews

13 Port Thunderbolt 3 Dock (Space Gray) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock - A great way to add I/O connectivity I anxiously looked forward to the Dock 3 being released to give my new iMac the additional I/O ports I needed for my ham radio hardware and applications. Having two high-power USB ports is great for use charging i-devices and powering the Apple SuperDrive. The legacy Firewire port allows me to use continue to use older backup drives and the display port to use my 27 Apple monitor as a second display. Finally, having a SD card slot, USB and audio ports on the front panel makes for easy headphone listening and USB connection without having to reach around behind the computer. I'm very pleased with OWC's Dock and B&H's sales and customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Advertised Only had it a few days but it just works. Eliminated the Apple AV dongle, the ethernet dongle and the USB-C to displayport cable. Running a Dell 2715Q 4k and Dell U2413. My only complaint would be for future growth as I've used both the displayport and spare T3 ports to run the monitors. No room for T3 growth unless I can daisy chain the displayport monitors someday. Also, I'd rather have a T3 port on the front or side to connect to the Mac, rather than the rear, but that doesn't affect the functionality of the current model. Glad to have the SD card reader and multiple USB 3 ports. It's exactly what I've been looking for since I bought the Mac last year.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lots of connections, but one glaring problem I pre-ordered this dock and I've used it basically every day since it was released. All the connectors work and it delivers enough power to charge a Macbook and iPad simultaneously. It has one big problem -- 99% of the time, you can't just plug your laptop into the dock. If you do that, the dock either doesn't wake up, or it wakes up only in part -- activating the screen but not thunderbolt, or thunderbolt but not USB. Most of them time, to get everything working, you have to put the laptop to sleep, wait a few seconds, then plug it into the dock, then wake it up. But sometimes that doesn't work, and when it doesn't you need to shut everything down, plug it together, and then boot it back up, sometimes two or three times. This is made more challenging by the fact that the dock DOES NOT HAVE A POWER SWITCH. I attached mine to a wireless outlet adapter, which reduces the hassle slightly but WHY OH WHY ISN'T THERE A POWER SWITCH.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from don't waste your time and Money Very unreliable product, it worked for 24 hrs and after that stopped getting recognized by MBP, I have tried everything possible from switching cables to changing ports to resetting hardware to get it to connect but I never succeed. I also contacted OWC tech Support and followed all the instructions provided by the agent, but non of them was effective. And the more disappointing part, I been told by the OWC agent, that none of units are tested or have a quality control, only defected and returned units are tested. Now I have to pay almost 100USD to return it back to the US. Such a waste of time and money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A reluctant must have Oh Apple. Why oh why did you make this product even nessessary? As an owner of a MacBook pro that only has USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, it quickly became apparent that I needed a dock solution for the deSo. I wanted the OWC dock and waited for the release. And waited some more. Then I really started waiting. It was worth it. No problems at all. Everything works. USB drives, SD cards, display, etc. One cord connection to the Macbook. No discernable noise from the power supply. I'm happy. ONE NOTE:. This only supplies 60 watts, so it doesn't charge at full speed. Not a problem for me as I have the Macbook docked most of the time. Keep that in mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good The original ISB-C Dock NEVER worked with my MacBookPro. Bought the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Dock from Apple Store and returned it after 2 days - it transmitted a noise through all the audio outputs, even connected to a UAD Thunderbolt 2 interface. This unit is silent, powers my 15 MBP with touch bar, and no issues connecting to a LG 4K Display, using a mini-display port to display port cable. I can get it to work at 60Hz. All ports seem to work, even though I have not tried the FW800 and Ethernet ports. I did not purchase from B&H (in Canada) but the long wait has finally paid off I think. Recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great (with annoying bugs) Docks should be that quiet, unstated piece of gear, tucked away, making everything else work. No so with this. The basic functionality (USB-C, USB, SD Card, etc) work great. One USB-C cable to the MacBook Pro and all of my storage, displays, and peripherals light up. For this, thank you OWC. Now for the reality check... When undocked from this unit, it will arbitrarily change to state where it will not power on without unplugging the power connection to the dock. This handshake is awkward as the connection is in a bad place and it should not be necessary. OWC has no fix and tech support has been unhelpful. They cannot replicate the issue and have not provided a resolution. Maybe this problem will go away in later revisions. As an early adopter (this was on pre-order for months), I regret the glitches.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too good to be true. The USB 3.0 dilemma continues, despite the temporary relief provided by this dock. I should have returned it in the first month, when I noticed that it was eject disks if you so much as touched it. But I continued, passing the allowable return date right before it stopped connecting monitors through the displayport. Horrendous customer service and few options other than to buy a competitor's product. Apple produced a fantastic laptop, but the market hasn't supplied a reliable way to connect to our lagging monitors and drives. Using a Macbook Pro 2016 w/ Touchbar
