Minox 62242 overview

  • 1Description

This second version of Minox's 8x33 BL-HD Series Binocular combines phase-corrected prisms, high density (HD) glass, anti-reflective multi-coated optics, and anomalous partial dispersion (APD) lens elements to create an optical system with well-rounded performance in all lighting conditions. The phase-corrected roof prisms and HD glass increase resolution and contrast, while the APD elements reduce chromatic aberration, that produce clear and bright images with true color representation across the entire field of view without distortion. When combined with its wide angle of view, long eye relief, and comfortable exit pupil, users will be presented with a panoramic and immersive observational experience.

Its lightweight polycarbonate housing reduces fatigue from long use while being impact, temperature, and corrosion-resistant. An open-bridge configuration further cuts the weight, while providing a sure grip whether you're using them with one hand or two. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for fogproof performance and they are rated to be submersible to 16 feet. Twist-up eyecups let you customize the eye relief whether you wear glasses or not.

Optical Performance
  • 8x magnification
  • 33mm objective lenses
  • Compact roof prism optical path
  • Anomalous partial dispersion LD glass elements increase light transmission for brighter, clearer images with reduced chromatic aberration to limit color fringing and off-axis coma for true color fidelity
  • Phase correcting prism coatings increase internal prism reflectivity, and improve contrast and resolution
  • Fully multi-coated optics limits light loss while further improving image brightness, color rendition, and contrast
  • 420' field of view at 1000 yards
  • Wide 64° apparent angle of view
  • Long 17.5mm eye relief
  • Comfortable 4.1mm exit pupil
Use and Handling
  • Open-bridge, dual hinge configuration provides more gripping surface area to improve hold and comfort
  • ±4 dioptric correction
  • Large knurled center focus wheel
  • Twist-up click-stop eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
Construction Details
  • Open-bridge design reduces weight without sacrificing strength or stability
  • Lightweight and durable polycarbonate chassis is temperature resistant to limit expansion and contraction prevents lens-shift over time that can move the optics out of collimation
  • Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be water and fogproof, and submersible to 16' (5 m)
  • Broad operating temperature range from 14 to 122°F (-10 to 50°C)
  • Weight: 26.1 ounces
  • Made in Germany

Minox 62242 reviews

8x33 BL HD Binocular v.2 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Great Glass I haven't put these though extended use or abuse but at first look I'm really impressed. I haven't used any other models in this price range (only higher and lower) but these are a HUGE upgrade from everything I have tried for slightly less money. That includes Zeiss Terra ED's, Vanguard Endeavor II's, Vortex Vipers, Nikons and a couple others I can't think of at the moment. They are bright and clear with a very wide field of view and nice contrast. The image circle is crisp nearly to the edge. The ocular lens is incredibly wide (maybe my favorite feature) and combined with the generous eye relief creates a very comfortable viewing experience. It never feels like I'm straining to hold my eyes in exactly the right position. Today I did a blind test with three people (non-photographer/non-critical viewers) comparing these against the previous version and all agreed that there was clearly a difference and that the new version was the winner. Both new and old benefit from the good design features, including massive ocular lens and solid build but the V2 shows clear optical improvement. I have only used high-end glass (Swarovski, Leica, etc) on a few occasions so I can't fairly compare them but I can say that I would compare these to high-end binoculars before I would compare them to any other binoculars that I've tried. If you can get a sale price on the previous version they would be an incredible value but the V2's are a step up and IMO an all around great binocular.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great binoculars The optics are superb with the new glasses and coatings. Very sharp and great color clarity. A little heavier than I like, but not so heavy that I won't use them. I use them for birding, so the longer close focus is of little consequence. They live up to the reputation that Minox was famous for with their little 8mm spy camera of which I still have two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding performance and value Purchased after much on-line research. Not disappointed. Optics close in performance to the top of line binocs but at a lower price point.
