Key Features
  • 3.0 Optical Density
  • Multi Resistant Coating
  • SCHOTT Glass Construction
  • Thin Brass Filter Ring
The B+W 77mm XS-Pro MRC-Nano 810 ND 3.0 Filter (10-Stop) is a neutral density filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

B+W MRC-Nano 810 Overview

The B+W 77mm XS-Pro MRC-Nano 810 ND 3.0 Filter (10-Stop) is a neutral density filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from SCHOTT glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and preventing jamming. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

B+W MRC-Nano 810 Reviews

Great Filter & very easy to clean

I bought this version because it was supposed to be easy to clean - and it is! Previously I had a ProMaster Digital HGX Variable ND Filter; it severely lost all uniformity as it was rotated near its 8 stop maximum density. My first photo taken using this is ND filter is attached; it was taken with a Nikon D810 and 24-70mm Nikkor lens @ 48 mm, at ISO 64, f/14, and 3.5 minutes.

with a thicker outside diameter on the filter ...

question

can you use this filter to take solar eclipse pics?
Asked by: Elizabeth P.
From what I have read about the brightness of the sun in solar eclipse descriptions for photography, this filter will not be sufficient, and probably not safe. The filters I read about are 18 stops for solar eclipse photography. I suggest reading some of the articles regarding solar eclipse photography. These talk about the damage to the eyes and camera equipment if not properly set up.

Has anyone noticed any IR contamination when using the stronger B+W ND filters?
Asked by: Paul
Are shooting with an IR converted camera? Are you noting discoloration when shooting IR? What filter were you using when shooting IR? Are you noticing any discoloration in your IR images after using this filter?
