Key Features
  • Designed for Solar Photography
  • 92,000x Filter Factor, 16.5 Stop
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Allows Reduced Shutter Speed
The Marumi 58mm DHG Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter is an ND filter with a 92,000x filter factor that provides a 16.5 stop exposure reduction. Its 5.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image that is effective for solar eclipse photography. This filter can also be used to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Marumi DHG Solar Filter Overview

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface has nine multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Digital High Grade (DHG) coating also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

question

Is this filter CE or ISO Certified?
Asked by: Sha K.
No. I also bought one of these from Amazon, and I just received the following message from them: Amazon has not received confirmation from the supplier of your order that they sourced the item from a recommended manufacturer. We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse.

question

Will this filter fit the Canon 52mm Drop-in Filter Holder?
Asked by: Reed
NOOOO! You don't want to use a drop in filter to photograph the sun - even if it fits. You must have a filter that fits on the front of your lens to prevent heat buildup.

question

When I use this filter for long exposures I get a purple haze across much of the picture. Why?
Asked by: Richard
I purchased this for the solar eclipse in August and it worked great. No issues. I did try I long exposure during the day with a white fence in the image and there was zero color cast. You might have to go with a higher ISO as your camera might be trying to amplify a weak signal which can cause a magenta color shift. Same thing happens on nigh shots if you use to low an ISO. Some cameras are more prone to this shift in low light than others.
