The Marumi 77mm DHG Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter is an ND filter with a 92,000x filter factor that provides a 16.5 stop exposure reduction. Its 5.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image that is effective for solar eclipse photography. This filter can also be used to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface has nine multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Digital High Grade (DHG) coating also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Marumi 77mm DHG ND-100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter (16.5 Stops) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works the Way It Should I bought this filter in order to take photos of the solar eclipse coming up in August, 2017. So far I've shot a few pictures of the sun in order to figure out how to use it, and my technique could still use a little refining. That said, it does what it's supposed to do, though the filter threads don't seem to mesh very well with the threads in the lens. As with my photos, refining my technique may fix that problem, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price If your photographing the sun a solar filter is a must, and the Marumi DHG is an excellent choice. It's 16.5 stop ND is accurate and allows for a 1/1500-1/2000 second exposure at ISO 100, f/8 when shooting the sun. There are no issues with filter thread matching to my Canon EF 400 f/5.6L. The attached photo was taken with a 7D MKII with aCanon 1.4X extender. With the sensor crop factor and extender this gives a 896mm equivalent. Exposure settings were: ISO 100, f/8, 1/2000 sec. White balance was 5500K. When shooting the sun remember DO NOT use TTL, use live view. The filter is designed to protect your sensor NOT your eyes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this lens again. I bought this filter for taking pictures of the sun during the August eclipse. I took it outside the other day to practice and see exactly how it would work. I am using a Canon EOS 70D with a Canon 100-400mm lens and 1.4 Extender. I used the Live View feature on the camera with manual focus. The camera's ability to magnify the focus area was a great feature. My camera did not like to autofocus on the sun so manual focus was the rule. The magnification made it easy to get a proper focus. The filter worked great. I have some other things that I want to try with the filter. I had read reviews that said that some of the filters do not screw into the lenses very well. This one fits very well, probably better than any other filter I have. This filter is NOT approved for direct viewing of the sun, you have to use Live View.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used it for 2017 eclipse Worked well. Threads fit fine on my Nikon 70-200mm. I was even able to see sunspots at f/8 1/1600 ISO100. For long exposures, remember to close your eyepiece or you'll get purple haze. Only downside is I wish this was ISO rated for direct viewing. Focusing on the sun in LiveView is surprisingly difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what is needed to photograph the sun. Put this on my 100-400 Fujinon zoom and I can caputure sun spots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the trick - now I want to take sun shots every day! Well, I had to wait until the eclipse to be sure this worked as advertised - but it did! In fact, if anything, I had trouble with shutter speeds that were too slow - in the El Paso TX are so the eclipse was only 62% covering at maximum, and yet still I was shooting my Fuji 100-400 with 2X TC at about 1/170 second using ISO 3200 (and setting the camera to -3EV underexposure)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solar filter I purchased this for the solar eclipse. I had it on my Canon 400mm with 1.4 extender. I got some great pictures. Warning - practice with this ahead of time. It took a while to determine the correct exposure, so I missed part of the eclipse. I haven't tried it yet for long exposures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Marumi solar eclipse filter So far only limited use of the filter just to practice shots of the sun. Filter (77mm) threaded smoothly onto lens. The only dislike to date is there were no instructions in English included with the product.
