Really Right Stuff TA-3-QC QUICK-COLUMN overview

  • 1Description

The TA-3-QC from Really Right Stuff is a variable, rapid center column that can be added to Versa Series 3 tripods in order to increase their versatility and maximum height.

The process of installing the column is simple, just remove the tripod's original base-plate, mount the center column in its place, and then reattach the base-plate to the top of the center column. Installation is so simple that removing the column is just as easy. If you're traveling and need to reduce your tripod's weight, or need to utilize your tripod's minimum working height, just take out the center column and reattach the base-plate in its original position.

In terms of technical specifications, the TA-3-QC features a native length of 15" and weighs just 12.7 oz. When attached to a tripod it provides 12.5" of total travel distance from lowest position to highest position. A threaded mount on the bottom of the column retains the use of the ballast hook which may be reattached from the base-plate after the column is installed.

Really Right Stuff TA-3-QC QUICK-COLUMN reviews

TA-3-QC Series 3 Quick Center Column is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sticks a Little, But Otherwise Perfect This is a very well made center column, and it was extremely easy to install in my TVC-34 tripod. It functions like any other tripod center column, so I won't talk about that. The entire column is precisely machined from anodized aluminum. The large, winged knob is easy to use to securely lock the column at any height. I have two complaints though: the column sticks a bit. Extending it isn't an entirely smooth action as one would hope, especially the last few inches. When trying to extend the column to its maximum height, the last few inches stick significantly. Second, the set screw used to prevent the platform from freely rotating off its screw at the top of the column digs into the aluminum of the top of the column in order to prevent it from rotating, leaving a raw gash in the top of the column from the bottom of the screw. I wish there were a way to secure the platform to the top of the column that did not require damaging the protective anodization on the metal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I always need a little more height on my TVC-X3 and this works. easy to add to legs and now my pod is 7'3" fully extended to the head.
