    Old love

Firstly buying this RRS ballhead from B&H is hazard free, they have fast shipment at reasonable rate (ordered in Mon & received on Fri, shipment to Singapore), and help to take care of the import tax in your country. Although this ballhead is small size, light weight, it is strong and can hold a much heavier load. This ballhead can help to do precision adjustment, and will not move at all after you tightened the ball.

Best ball head I've ever owned

This is the best ball head I've ever owned. I still use my Wimberly a lot but when I need a ball head this is my go to ball head.

This is a repeat buy - for an extra tripod. I've found RRS products are well made and they stand behind their products. Been a fan for at least 10 years.

    Solid!

Really Right Stuff (RRS) BH-40 Ball Head is awesome and perfect for my needs -- small, light weight, holds my equipment (including Nikkor 200-400mm f/4) solid with no movement atop of a Gitzo G1327 Tripod. I think the BH-55 is better (in that it holds greater weight), but it's bigger and heavier. If you don't plan to carry a lot of carry, then BH-55 is probably the better option. For travelers and folks who insist on whittling down weight, then BH-40 is perfect for you.

    so horrible

I was so happy to get a RRS ball head for landscape, saved my pennies and was really excited to have one of the best companies in my gear bag. I am blown away in the worst possible way. Now faced with the controls on this ball head that are pretty much the worst I have used.. And.. I switched from Gitzo. Very upset. I have been shooting for 20 years. The knobs are hard to use, small, and if you do not tighten, so much that you have to lose skin, the camera is going to drop hard. For this much money I want something that works easily. This is not easy to use, reasjusting shots is a pain. You will miss in the moment compositions. If you do not harden the screws to the tightest level, your camera will drop. Good luck getting quick shots off and re adjusting. I expected something amazing and now stuck with something that is extremely difficult to use and stabilize a camera. If it gets cold- at all you will have the hardest time stabilizing your camera. BH, I need to exchange this. Hear my plea.

    Very well made.

It’s just like almost everyone else says....... fantastic! I think I might like the shorter screw knob length though, more consistent with the overall compact package. Works very well on my Gitzo tripod.

Perfect size and weight.  Very precise, and locks perfectly.

Some of the other brands just don't get it with this stuff. This head is made of light and strong stuff with the precision you need to keep the micro-adjustments you constantly make where you want them.

    RRS gear awesome as usual

This ball head is probably the best out there (build quality and design). I bought the screw knob version rather than the lever release clamp and have liked the operation of it. This is a light and relativily compact ball head perfect for hiking/backpacking.

Will this Ball Head mount to a Manfrotto Tripod?
    Asked by: David
It sure looks like it would mount to my Gitzo, and I had a old Bogen head on that for a long time. The only Manfrotto I have is a lightweight, but the mount looks the same.

Will the screw knob interfere with a fold down lcd screen on the D850?

Sorry, I do not know the answer to that question. I have the Z6 & Z7 and their screens bend down at about a 45 degree angle and that does not interfere with the screw-knob. Hope that helps --- Jim

How much turning is required to open/close the clamp of the screw-knob version?
    Asked by: Richard
Not a whole lot. Maybe 2 full turns if you drop the plate from the top. Less so if you slide the plate from the side. All depends. But the security of the screw knob gives me comfort and peace of mind.
