This Ball Head is amazing! Rock solid!!! My ONLY regret is I didn't buy one sooner! You really get what you pay for, they are EXPENSIVE up front, but good equipment is an investment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!

    Absolute star.

This is my second BH-55 ball head from RRS. Outfitting a second tripod and quite frankly, never even considered something else. Large knobs allow easy use with gloves. Smooth motion even has fine tension adjust. 2 drop outs for portrait orientation if needed. Clamp version is quick and easy. Only slight knock is weight but wouldn't trade it.

I was tired of getting soft images with long exposures. After much research online, I reluctantly pulled the trigger on the most expensive ball head I have ever purchased. Now, I'm glad I did, wether I'm shooting wide or tele, the softness from my photos is gone.

    Excellent Ball Head

Excellent ball head. Have two 55's and one 40. My preferred head for general photography other than a gimbal used for moving wildlife. Appreciate the low profile of these heads shortening the overall length of the head/tripod assembly. Very well made and smooth operation. And beautifully designed and finished. The one exception is macro photography using focusing rails that cantilever away from the center tripod axis. These heads tend to droop slightly. A friend who also uses the 55 experienced the same and he called RSS who refuted the problem. But it exists. The droop requires to aim the camera high allowing for the very slight drop. We both bought a different brand to use with macro. All of my units use the lever-release feature having no issues with a standard ARCA plate. Rather than rely on a thumb turn, the lever position tells me the camera us secure without looking. Especially useful at night when feel is king. But that said, I highly recommend the 55 for general photography preferring them to my Gitzo heads. I'll soon be purchasing a third 55 for an additional tripod. A professional recommended RSS products and I've never been disappointed.

    question

My BH55 pan lock knob is stuck, and the base is unable to be locked into place. Is there a way to free the knob?
    Asked by: Jeff C.
Mine came with the pan knob tightened by some someone who drinks WAY to much coffee. I wrapped the knob with a rag and used a pair of pliers to loosen it. Ended up with a small scratch on the knob. I don’t really care about the scratch as, after a lot of use, it’s not the only self inflicted blemish on the head.

Physically the RRS BH-55 head can be attached to a Befree tripod. However, due to the smaller size of the Befree and the limited weight load, it would not be recommended.
