    Complete Satisfaction

I purchased a Nikon D850, Nikon 24-70 f2.8, Nikon 70-200 f2.8, and a Nikon 200-500 f5.6 from B&H over the past year. These were all upgrades from previous camera equipment. I tried various tripod heads and was not satisfied with the stability and precision; especially with the 200-500 set up. The BH-55 head has met all my expectations. A rock solid product. The B&H service was impeccable per usual. Highly recommend the RRS BH-55 for anyone with large camera equipment.

I have had numerous ball heads over the past 10 years. All have failed - some fairly quickly. My last head was a nice Sirui and it held up well for about 4 years making it a good price/value. But in all honesty I think it would have gone faster had I not gotten rid of my old RB67 in 2019. This new head feels like it will support a tank. I waited about 4 months to review it as I wanted to put it through its paces. It has only gotten better as time has passed. The controls are ultra-smooth, the head is strong, the finish is holding up well to abuse, and the design is great. Consider me an RRS convert.

Sturdy, solid ball head. I considered other ball heads, but decided on the RRS BH-55 because of the fast locking of the main lockdown knob and high weight it can handle.

Does this ball head come with a quick release plate?
    Asked by: Charles
Unfortunately, the BH-55 does not include a quick release plate. A suitable plate to fit most cameras to this head is the Really Right Stuff BP-CS Multi-Camera Conventional Plate, B&H # REBPCSPLATE. https://bhpho.to/33pXg7o

Please, I am requesting from other serious hobbyists and pros out there: Will the Really Right Stuff Ultralight L-Plate for Nikon D850 B&H # REBD850L MFR # BD850-L ULTRALIGHT L-PLATE work with the RRS BH-55 without any additional part or adapter for a strong connection between the two parts? I will be shooting landscapes in portrait mode with a Nikon D850 (without a grip.) I do not plan to do any stitching of panoramas in post. I will be shooting just individual, carefully shot photos with a Nikon 14-24 2.8, or Nikon 20mm 1.4, plus appropriate filters. Thank you for any relevant feedback you are willing to share.

I am really confused as to what is needed to use this ballhead. I just bought the tripod, about to purchase a ballhead_but it doesnt come with a camera mounting plate? I look for wat I think is a mounting plate to use with my R5 and I'm not sure what I am looking at and what I am looking for. Can't find anything on the website that resembles other sites for comparison. Help
    Asked by: Darlene
RRS heads do not come with plates, and they primarily recommend dedicated plates that fit your camera exactly that work with the BH55, such as these ones: https://bhpho.to/2T8XHjW https://bhpho.to/3rNsilf

    question

I have RRS plate for Fuji XT-1. It doesn't fit my new Fuji XT-2.Any suggestions??
    Asked by: Maureen S.
RRS plates are model specific. It's not the fault of RRS that the plat for XT-1 doesn't fit the XT-2. Small differences in the manufacturer's design equate to design differences in dedicated accessories such as camera plates. The width of the chassis, length of the chassis, offset location of the tripod screw hole, and the location of battery doors and ports all mean that the plate has to be redesigned for the new model. It's the unfortunate price for the ultimate in stable support. If you want a plate that is applicable to a variety of platforms, you'll need to use a generic Arca-Swiss style plate. The result will be less stability when the ball head is put in portrait mode.

    question

Can the release plate be replaced with the Manfrotto RC-4 plate?
    Asked by: John
No it won't work, I just tried it on mine. The RC-4 plate is too wide for the RRS clamp and it has a profile that doesn't match up with the Arca Swiss style of the BH-55 Screw Clamp. I still use my Manfrotto systems, but prefer the RRS for heavier gear like a full size camera with battery grip and a big lens.
