Really Right Stuff BH-25 with Lever Overview

The BH-25 Ball Head with Lever-Release Clamp from Really Right Stuff is an Arca-compatible, single action tripod head that represents the smallest and lightest ball head offering in the RRS line-up.

Despite the BH-25's small stature it's an impressively capable support, able to hold up to 8.8 lb, while standing just 2.6" tall and weighing a negligible 7.8 oz. The single action design of the head allows the user to unlock the 360° pan and the ball at the same time, facilitating completely free movement in any direction and locking in any position. The T-style lever lock assists the user when locking and unlocking the ball head by providing a large grip for maximum leverage. The T-style handle is also set on a spring loaded ratcheting joint, which allows the user to rotate the handle, freeing it of obstruction caused by large tripod baseplates.

On the technical side, the BH-25 features a few classic additions that make the head almost universally compatible and customizable. The bottom of the head features a standard 3/8"-16 mount for wide compatibility with most tripod legs, while the connecting stem features a standard 1/4"-20 thread that makes swapping quick release clamps as simple as possible. Also, to save weight, the 0.9" ball uses a hollow design, which maintains strength while adding to the BH-25's lightweight design.

Is the BH-25 the best choice for use on a platypod ultra? I plan on using it with my Olympus OMD EM1 Mk2 with a 12-40MM lens. Or should I step up to the BH-30 for this use?
Asked by: Michael
The Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head with Compact Lever-Release Clamp B&H # REBH30LR would be better to use with the Platypod Ultra since it has nearly double the load capacity of the BH-25.

Is there a safety on the lever-release?
Asked by: Brian
No, you do not need a safety lock on the RRS lever release. The release plate should have safety pins to prevent the plate from quickly sliding off if you release the lever by mistake.

How is this Lever-Release Clamp vs the screw knob version?

Excellent alternative. First it's quicker. Second, you don't have the protruding knob. But in final function mode, either one will do the job.
