Really Right Stuff PG-02 FG overview

  • 1Description

The PG-02 FG Pano-Gimbal Head with PG-CC Cradle Clamp from Really Right Stuff is a full-size, dual-function tripod head designed to support DSLRs with up to a 600mm lens attached.

Designed as both a panoramic and gimbal head, the PG-02 is recommended for users wishing to capture single or multi-row panoramas with collared lenses. It can also be used as a full-size gimbal for DSLRs with large telephoto lenses up to roughly 600mm. With a load capacity of 50 lb the PG-02 is a reliable and stable support able to effortlessly and accurately shift position during panoramic capture or when tracking moving subjects like wildlife or birds in flight.

The PG-02's design consists of two arms that control the rotation and swing of the cameras position. The base arm is connected directly to the integrated base rotator, which features a laser-engraved 360° scale for accurate positioning when capturing single or multi-row panoramas. The vertical arm, which mounts to the base arm via Arca-type clamp, may be positioned with the assistance of a laser-engraved millimeter scale. The vertical arm also features an adjustable rotator with engraved 360° markings and a lever-lock equipped Arca-type cradle clamp for mounting and dismounting your camera and lens foot.

Although the PG-02 is primarily a still photography support, considerations for video users have also been made to make the head more accessible. On the top of the vertical side arm is an array of threaded accessory ports that can accommodate clamps, magic arms, and the direct mounting of LCD monitors, and microphones. The array features a 3/8"-16 female socket in the center which is surrounded by four 1/4"-20 female threads on the top, bottom, left, and, right.

Really Right Stuff PG-02 FG reviews

PG-02 FG Pano-Gimbal Head with PG-CC Cradle Clamp is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best piece of equipment I thought I’d never need I’ve been stitching photos for a while now guesstimating on a tripod. As I tried to take on more complex scenes my failure rate Increased to the point of getting gun shy, shooting 10 to 20 one minute exposures has some investment. I decided to gear up. The first thing I bought was an L bracket then a panorama head. Finally I decided to try the vertical component and bought this gimbal. I call it the contraption but it’s opened up a whole new world. I shoot macro and scenics with really good results. Really right stuff produces Incredibly well Machined products and in the end, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Top Notch I debated spending so much on a piece of photo equipment when there are less expensive alternatives, but I have to say that after using the Really Right Stuff PG-02 FG Gimbal Head I'm very happy with my choice. It is completely rock solid, has what I would consider just the right amount of tension (it will not spin freely as some others are shown to do in their reviews) and is a very professional-looking piece of gear. Another nice feature is that it allows for horizontal adjustment in order to center the camera on the panning axis. As this is my first gimbal head I can't compare it to others, and although it still seems pricey, I honestly can't imagine one being any better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serious quality Loved it as soon as I unpacked it. Sturdy, high quality, and easy to assemble, fits my 150-600 Tamron, feels very secure, yet will scratch easily. To my surprise at this high cost it did not come with a protection cover/carrying case. Disappointing to say the least. It's an expensive item and it should have a carrying case to protect it when it's off the tripod.
