Featuring a hand-tuned capsule and quiet Class-A discrete circuitry, the Blue Baby Bottle SL is a studio condenser microphone which builds upon its predecessor to provide a warm and classic sound as well as switchable filter and pad settings, ensuring great versatility for varied studio recording applications. It utilizes a large, gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm, replete with a machined brass backplate to yield its signature sound—supple highs, rich midrange, and honest bass. Further elevating its professional nature is the custom shockmount, which absorbs vibrations to inhibit handling and stand noise.

Use the 100 Hz low-cut filter to attenuate bass buildup and increase intelligibility, which is especially important when the mic is close to the source. When miking drum kits or guitar amps, the -20 dB pad is perfect for keeping the sound clear and free of distortion. The mic's cardioid polar pattern rejects a good deal of sound behind the mic, allowing it to pick up less room ambience and background noise than many other polar responses. The Baby Bottle SL can be connected to any XLR mic input that is capable of sending 48V phantom power.

Classic Warmth and Presence

Baby Bottle SL is a cardioid condenser microphone that delivers classic sound and incredible versatility. With a richly present midrange, smooth top end, and neutral bottom, Baby Bottle SL is reminiscent of the world's finest vintage microphones. Featuring a high-pass filter and -20 dB pad, Baby Bottle SL excels at adding a rich, classic vibe to nearly any sound source.

Behind the Mic

Building on the success of the original Baby Bottle, the SL model features refined sonics, a new streamlined build, and versatile switches to capture the true character of your voice and bring classic mojo to acoustic guitars and other instruments. Baby Bottle SL is designed from top to bottom to inspire unforgettable performances.

Inside the Sound

The soul and swagger of Baby Bottle SL all starts with Blue's proprietary, hand-tuned capsule. The robust, gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm features a machined brass backplate design that creates the signature warmth and presence Baby Bottle SL is known for. And custom Class-A discrete circuitry makes it an extremely quiet mic with only 10.8 dB of self-noise.

Make the Switch

Baby Bottle SL features a switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter and -20 dB pad to keep your sound pure regardless of vocal type, instrument, or environment. Whether recording belting vocalists, loud guitar amps, drums, and brass, or capturing delicate vocals, strings, or piano, Baby Bottle SL has the versatility to capture timeless tracks.

Blue Baby Bottle SL Reviews

Excellent sound + build quality, nice looks

The Blue Baby Bottle SL is one of the best microphones under $500, it produces a wonderful, warm sound that sounds great on vocals. I can't speak personally for instruments because I use it for voiceovers, but I've heard that it works well for both acoustic and electric guitar. The sound this mic produces has lots of presence in the high and mids, but still has solid bass. This mic isn't 'crunchy' in the high ends like its little brother, the Bluebird SL, so I would without a doubt recommend this over the Bluebird. The build quality on this mic is also outstanding, it has a nice heft to it, and it's all made out of metal so it's very sturdy. The shockmount included also is made of metal and is very effective at nullifying rumbles and shakes. As per usual with condenser mics, make sure you have a full 48v of phantom power when you use it so that it can get a signal, and make sure you use it with a pop filter or windscreen of some sort. Blue's "The Pop" windscreen looks really nice with it and works well. And on the subject of looks, this mic has a vintage sort of look to it, and it's really pleasing to look at. The shockmount ties in very well with the whole look of the mic, that is if looks are important to you in a microphone. Overall, if you purchase this mic, you will receive a nice package that produces an amazing vocal sound, looks very aesthetically pleasing, and is constructed very well. In my opinion, it is more than worth the $400 price tag.
