Syrp 0002-0009 overview

  • 1Description

This Super Dark Variable Neutral Density Filter Kit from Syrp includes a solid variable neutral density filter that can be directly attached to a lens with 67mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops. The 1.5 to 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. A Nano coating provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

The included solid variable neutral density filter is constructed from Asahi glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity. The filter rings are made from aluminum alloy for durability while remaining lightweight, and for easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with index numbers that indicate different exposure-reduction values. Also provided is a microfiber cleaning cloth, a zippered, leather storage pouch and two, aluminum-alloy step-up rings that allow the filter to be used on lenses with 58mm or 52mm front filter threads.

    Syrp 0002-0009 reviews

67mm Super Dark Variable Neutral Density Filter Kit is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price tag I spent a lot of time doing research on which variable ND filter to get for the Samyang 12mm f/2 for my Fuji X-Pro 2. I only do time lapses so finding the right filter was important to me. I must admit I was seduced by the Syrp's marketing machine (you should check out their website) and, upon doing further reading online, I decided to go with the filter for three specific reasons: (1) There is no risk of getting the "X" mark when darkening the image (which happened to me with a cheaper variable filer) because this filter only reduces the light by 5 to 10 stops and they manufactured it in a way that you cannot turn the filter outside of this range; (2) It is made of high quality glass which doesn't alter the color of the photos; (3) it comes with two step-up rings so that I can use it on other lenses. I recently used the filter during a 10-day trip in California where I shot time lapses on the beach, city, and in national parks. It worked well. Be aware though that with a wide angle lens such as the Samyang 12mm on an ASPC camera, vignetting will appear quite often. This seems to be unavoidable and I correct it easily in Lightroom.
