SAFETY FIRST: Observing the Sun without the proper protection may result in serious personal injury, including permanent eye damage and blindness, and/or damage to equipment. Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Photograph sunspots, surface granulation, eclipses and planetary transits with your telephoto lens and the StarGuy 72mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter. These filters display the sun in a neutral white color without the red or blue tinting common in many glass and film filters. Made of a tear-resistant solar-viewing film, it is coated on both sides to eliminate the effects of pinholes while the intentional wrinkles improve image contrast and will not affect image quality or safety. The filter ring is made of a durable and lightweight aluminum alloy coated with a reflection-limiting anodized finish. This version of the solar filter has threads that allow it to thread onto the front of 72mm lenses. For the safety of your eyes and equipment, never look or point the camera directly at the sun through a lens without proper solar filters as permanent damage to the gear and your eyes will occur.

    72mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked great for me The market has probably died for these now that the eclipse is over, but it worked great for me and I may well use it some more to capture some daily sequences of the sun to show sunspot rotation. The filter housing is oversized so it won't allow a built-in lens hoods to slide forward past it - but then who needs a lens hood with this thing (what light is brighter than the sun?). The filter itself is coated mylar, which may look a bit unflat but still produces a fine image. It came in a zip-loc bag in an oversized cardboard box. A plastic box would have been nice for working storage, but the packaging was adequate to get it delivered unharmed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly fine First off this is not a glass filter but mirrored Mylar film I'm assuming. I was a little worried when I received it and noticed it had some slight wrinkling, with a note saying that was normal. That worried me but pictures are nice and crisp. At first I thought it did affect the optics but, turned out the smudge I saw was a sunspot I didn't realize was facing us. Fit my filter threads perfect. Just be careful since it is a film that you don't poke a hole through it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice filter, no case I just bought a 58 mm version of this filter. It arrived quickly, was well packed in a cardboard container, and fits on the lens well. However, it already looks like it suffered a cut on one side during shipping (?). For such a fragile material I was surprised it came with no case (?). I would look specifically to verify that it will come protected the way one would expect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey, but it works Seems very pricey for a piece of solar foil mounted in a filter frame, particularly when is comes in a simple baggie and cardboard box and not a filter case. That said my test results have been good so far, so I am satisfied with the image quality you can capture through the filter. No worries about the live show in a week, other that the threat of clouds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter, I just wish it could see through clouds The filter worked very wellif only the weather had cooperated and not completely blocked the view twenty minutes before, during and after totality. Aahhrrgg!! Will the filter still be usable in 2024?
