Handevision 24mm f/2.4 overview

  • 1Description

A classic wide-angle focal length designed to be lightweight and compact, the silver IBERIT 24mm f/2.4 Lens from HandeVision is designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Its eight elements in seven groups optical design renders a classic image quality that has been optimized for use with current image sensors, and this image quality is benefitted by smooth manual focus operation down to 9.8" for precise control. A durable all-metal construction is comprised of anodized aluminum, brass, and stainless steel to render a rugged physical design, and the lens barrel's exterior also incorporates both depth of field and focusing distance scales for more accurate focus control.

Wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.
Eight elements, seven groups optical design provides a classic image quality that is also well-suited to use on current image sensors.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 9.8" away.
Engraved focus distance and depth of field scales benefit working with pre-focus and hyperfocal focusing techniques.
Six diaphragm blades contribute to a pleasing bokeh quality.
All-metal construction uses anodized aluminum, brass, and stainless steel components to render a physically durable design that is also lightweight and easy to handle.
Focus ring has a 120° throw and the aperture ring has a 76° angle of rotation.
Exterior diameter of 58mm is consistent throughout the entire IBERIT lens lineup.

    Handevision 24mm f/2.4 reviews

IBERIT 24mm f/2.4 Lens for Sony E (Silver) is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good performer, but some issues The first concern with any lens is its optical performance. I find this lens to be a good performer; the center is sharp at all apertures, with good contrast. The extreme corners are just a bit soft until f/3.5, but then sharpen up nicely after that. The same is true of a small amount of brightness fall-off (vignetting) down to about the same aperture. There is nothing extreme about the specs on this lens, so good performance should be a given. Mechanical construction is adequate, but could be better at this price. Focus is nice and smooth, with a very short throw of about 110 degrees ( a plus for me, maybe not for others). Aperture click stops could be a bit more firm, but are adequate, with no looseness. Engravings are clear, but ugly, and there are very visible set-screws holding the focus ring. Overall, the lens reminds me of optics from former Soviet Union countries: good glass, solid construction, poor cosmetics. A major annoyance is the lack of a lens hood from the manufacturer, despite a dedicated bayonet on the lens barrel. Inexcusable! I purchased the Sensei hood recommended by B&H, but found that it cut off the image corners when used in conjunction with a UV filter. I always shoot with both, so I'm left with the choice of using one or the other. For the cost of this lens, that is an extra expense and hassle that should not be acceptable. I bought this lens because I wanted a manual focus, traditionally constructed (metal) lens in the 24/25 mm focal length in dedicated FE mount. This was the only thing available that meets those criteria, so I'm keeping it. I'm waiting for a Zeiss Loxia in the same focal length, and if Zeiss should make one, the Iberit will be gone.
