The Eclipse Leo Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod from 3 Legged Thing is an updated variant of the original Leo tripod. Identical in nearly every way, the Eclipse series only differs from the Equinox through the use of Gunmetal Gray colored fittings instead of the classic blue and bronze.

The Eclipse Leo features five leg sections that can extend to a maximum height of 51.5" and also go as low as 4.75". At the 23° angle leg spread, which is considered a normal stance, the tripod can support a maximum of 66.1 lb. (The legs have two additional wider stances, and these will support less weight.) The twist locks' Para-lock feature works by restricting the opening movement of the friction lock, preventing you from accidentally unscrewing the lock until the leg section detaches.

The two-section center column can be inverted, enabling the user to raise the height of the tripod, while physically lowering the camera to the desired height. This is a helpful feature for doing macro photography. Fold the legs 180° in reverse to make the tripod more compact for travel and storage.

All 3 Legged Thing tripods have a detachable leg with standard 3/8"-16 threads at both ends. The Tri-mount plate and threaded bolt can be unscrewed and removed from the top of the center column, then screwed directly onto the leg. The detachable leg can be used as a monopod, microphone boom, or selfie stick.

3-Position Leg-Angle Stops
The legs spread to three angles of 23°, 55°, and 80°.
Para-Lock Leg Locking System
Para-locks work by restricting the opening movement of the friction lock, preventing you from accidentally unscrewing the lock until the leg section detaches.
Reversible Folding Legs
Fold legs 180° in reverse for compactness and storage.
2-Section Center Column
Center column can be inverted, enabling the user to raise the height of the tripod, while physically lowering the camera to the desired height.
Removable Leg
All 3 Legged Thing tripods have a detachable leg with standard 3/8"-16 female threads, which can be used as a monopod, microphone boom, and selfie stick.

Eclipse Leo Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod (Gunmetal Gray) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this thing! I travel often and I hate to check bags, so I am limited to what will fit in my carry on bag or backpack. After not measuring, I bought another tripod only to find out it doesn't fit. So I looked for something lightweight, small, and could hold my Sony Mirrorless camera. This tripod doesn't disappoint. It is an amazing 3 legged thing ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally worth it The tripod is small and portable enough to carry around while traveling. The weight is not bad; it's light enough to be easily carried around, but sturdy enough to make it worth your while. The price is a little higher than I would like, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked pretty well For a travel tripod it worked pretty well, but not the most stable. Any wind and it needs to be all the way done to get the shot. But then again I am use to Really Right Stuff. Had the RRS BH-55 head on the tripod since I expected it to come with a head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than I expected but not "Perfect" (Nothing ever is!) I have to say I was surprised at how sturdy the tripod is for it's size and weight. On the other hand it's somewhat bulkier than I'd like. Length collapsed is perfect, Length extended is - well somewhat short (I'm 6'2") but that's a compromise I'm willing to make to get a length that will fit in my carry on bag and camera bag. Given that I expect to use it primarily with a Mamiya TLR, height will be fine - if I wanted to use it with a DSLR or my Mamiya 7, I'd struggle a bit with the height. Only "complaint" as I mentioned is the bulkiness. I think the twist locks could be made a bit thinner and honestly for a travel tripod the rated camera weight is a bit unrealistic - not sure many people would load a travel tripod to 66 pounds. If it were designed to support say 15 - 20 pounds I think it could be thinned down a fair amount and still be perfectly usable as a travel 'pod. Price is quite attractive. All in all I'd rate the tripod slightly lower than my CF Gitzo Traveler, but at 1/3 the price of the Gitzo I think it's a real bargain. And the Gitzo is too long for my camera bag!
