Really Right Stuff TVC-24L overview

  • 1Description

The TVC-24L from Really Right Stuff is the "extra-tall" version of the traditional TVC-24 model. It has been designed for photographers who require extra height for shooting over crowds, standing in water, or for everyday photography.

Constructed from Really Right Stuff's patented carbon fiber weave, the TVC-24L weighs in at an impressive 3.7 lb and can safely support up to 40 lb. Its 4-section, extra-long leg design allows the tripod to extend to a maximum height of 66.1" and lower down to a minimum working height of just 3.7".

Quick set-up and break-down is facilitated by easy-to-use twist locks that require just a quarter rotation to unlock and re-lock each leg section. This design also helps to maintain the tripod's slim folded silhouette. Additionally, when traveling with or storing the tripod, the entire support can fold down to just 23" in length, small enough to travel or hike with.

Each leg is attached to the tripod's collar via an offset leg joint that helps to evenly distribute heavy loads and maintain the tripod's rigidity. The joints and collar itself are constructed of lightweight anodized aluminum which, aside from lending inherent strength to the tripod, also provides it with natural wear and corrosion resistance. Each one of the three leg joints also features a ratcheting angle stop that automatically locks into place as the legs are folded downward into "standard" position.

The TVC-24L's feet are a unique teardrop shape, which prevents the leg sections from touching the ground at even the lowest height settings and the most unusual angles. Their rubber exterior provides a non-slip grip on nearly any surface and can be used both indoors and outdoors without concern. For users wishing to change the native rubber feet to metal "all-terrain" spikes, a set of metal spikes are available separately.

    Really Right Stuff TVC-24L reviews

TVC-24L Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock steady and well crafted I had this tripod and sold it for the TVC23. Then sold that one and am back to the 24L. Love this tripod. I am a female, and only 5'6, but found myself on uneven ground, or needing at times to stand on a chair for higher perspective, and this tripod is fabulous. If I don't need the extra height, I just keep the lowest sections tucked in. Unless you use long lenses exclusively the two-series tripods may be all you need. I used the TVC23 with a 600mm lens to photograph birds, and it was quite sufficient for occasional long-lens use. I also use RRS ball heads and plates. I'm not techie and need things to just work. And these do. Made in the USA, as well, which has become more important than ever, to me, and RRS customer service can't be beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid Sold my Sachtler setup to purchase a tripod more suited to travel photography. Specifically purchased the RRS TVC-24L for a photo adventure to Patagonia. I could not be more pleased with this tripod. In the 40 mph and much stronger winds there was virtually no camera shake. Sunrise, sunset, long exposures to capture waterfalls were no problem at all. The other travelers in the group were clearly jealous, and rightfully so. They struggled in those winds. Ease of use plus the sheer strength of the tripod made this one of my best purchases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid as a rock Just came back from a trip to Iceland, where there was constant 50-70 km/hr winds, rain, salt water etc. This thing performed like a champ holding anything I could throw at. Have used it with a star tracker/A99II/70-400 G2 with no movement at all (Kirk BH1 head was used). Easy to take apart and clean, very highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My ideal tripod and ball head combo - RRS TVC24L and BH55 This pair is my dream tripod and ball head combination. The tripod is rock steady and the ball head quick release is so convenient. Above all, thanks to Rob at B&H for his patient and professional explanation and insights on tripods. Steve

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well crafted, lightweight tripod. Very sturdy. I have one of those ancient, heavy Gitzo Student tripods, with the overbuilt center column clamp and with the old style twist locks. I was looking for a modern, carbon fiber tripod that was strong enough and tall enough to use in all likely situations while still collapsing to a small enough size to pack on a motorcycle. (See my review of the BH-40 Ball Head). There are other models that are shorter when collapsed, but I chose this series and model based on everything I read about its strength and rigidity as well as the fact that, with four-section legs, it is compact as can be for a tripod this size. As with all RRR products, the design and finish of the tripod are exquisite. The twist locks have a very positive locked/unlocked feel, with only a partial turn needed to operate them. You can easily lock or unlock all of the sections on a leg with one hand. I haven't used the spikes or rock feet yet, but have already used the tripod in precarious positions, with one or two legs over ledges and the other leg(s) next to me on solid ground. The tripod is steady in all conditions, including in high gusts (think Hurricane Point in Big Sur). I added a QD strap, which is very handy at times. I highly recommend this tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will have this tripod for the rest of my life! This tripod is the perfect compromise for between strength and weight. I'm getting older now and have to minimize the weight I carry on my photo adventures. Found my tripod. Thanks B&H and RRS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this again and recommend it to my friends. Essential piece of equipment for me, whether it's landscapes or wildlife photography. Well designed, light, compacts down to 23 inches, as sturdy as my much heavier Gitzo. Made in America and comes with first class service when you need it. When I call RRS, one of the guys you see on their videos actually answers the phone. Also the L version gives me the height that I need on slopes or in the rocks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Quality! This tripod is awesome! It's not too heavy and about as solid as a rock. I use this with my D850 and 16-35 & 70-200 F4 and have no issues. I use an Acratech GP Lever Ballhead with these legs and the combo is a match made in heaven! I'm 6'0 and its nice having a tripod that can get to eye level with me or taller if needed.
