Datavideo HDR-1 Overview

Record and playback HD videos in the ubiquitous H.264 format without a PC using the Datavideo HDR-1 Standalone H.264 Recorder and Player. To get started, plug in an NTFS-formatted USB flash drive, and the HDR-1 will automatically set itself up to record or playback video to/from the drive. Whether your productions have HD or SD equipment, the HDR-1 can handle it. Resolutions of up to 1080p at 30fps are supported for recording, and bit-rates of up to 20 Mbps ensure that the recordings retain detail.

Once your video is recorded, you can remove the flash drive and distribute the video, or move it to a hard drive for archiving, sharing directly to the web (no transcoding required for most hosting services), or editing later. Basic editing maneuvers, such as cutting unwanted segments can be made inside the HDR-1. If someone is actively operating the HDR-1, the pause button can temporarily stop the recording during a break in the event while keeping the recording in a single file, removing extra post-event editing steps.

Existing H.264 videos can be loaded onto a flash drive for playback on the HDR-1. Connect an HDMI display and use the front-panel controls or software control via RS-232 to navigate files and control playback. RS-232 and GPI can also control recording start/stop with separately available hardware as part of a larger A/V setup.

Datavideo HDR-1 Reviews

Works GREAT

Really enjoy using this unit as my business is converting VHS and camcorder tapes to USB stick. It is sometimes a little challenging to find a USB stick that is fast enough for this unit, so i have been using 256 gb SD cards. I can store over 54 hours on a stick. This unit make my 5th Datavideo unit as they are helping my customers stay in the digital realm of today.

Great H.264 Recorder

The only thing I would change is an SDI Input, but other than that, does a great job recording an H.264 file.

Straight forward and easy to use

This unit worked exactly as anticipated and did not take much time to figure out how to use. The only thing that I would have liked that this unit does not offer is an audio in for audio embedding. B&H was quick on the shipping as always.

Reliable & Simple

The recording process is simple and it works without fail. If it loses power suddenly it goes through a quick process of repairing the USB and then continues to work. We use it for recording church services and everyone was impressed with how straightforward it is to operate. On our current settings (on the lower end) it creates an mp4 that is roughly 10GB per hour

The audio is out of sync with the video

Purchased this to save some time since I was having to put all my MTS files onto the drive, and making them into mp4's and searching for start and stop times. Figured this would be perfect since it pauses and I can stop when I want to create an additional file. Would be perfect if it worked. Purchased the fastest 3.1 Kingston Savage X drive and all the drives that have specs above what they ask you have to record results in the audio not matching with the video. I emailed Datavideo but have received no response. I guess I will spend hours on the phone now and they will probably make me buy some drive they have onsite. So much for a thumb drive recorder, and a mere $500.00. I expected so much more from this, I am just so very disappointed!!!

Good Recorder, nice features, has some limitations

Overall this is a good H.264 recorder and has a nice selection of bit rates to record at, and many other options. This unit is worthy of 5 stars but for the reasons below I gave it 4 stars. PRO's: - Selectable bit rate, handles a wide range of formats from 480i up to 1080p, and they really have Tech Support! (I give there Tech Support 5 stars. CON's: -If you're recording 1080P60, the live passthrough doesn't work after you hit record - you see it for 3 seconds and screen goes black, but you're still recording at 1080P60, so you'll need another program monitor from your source for viewing during record. (The manual does state this unit only outputs 1080i at this record format) -Using other 3.0 USB drives or hard drives; just because you have a a 3.0 USB drive, it will not work unless it has a fast write speed. This means you're not going to be able to use inexpensive drives. If you're going to use a hard drive, you will need one with it's own power supply. (we found the Buffalo 7200 RPM 3.0 USB drive works well.) I would recommend this unit, still good value for the price!

Easy set up and use

This is so much easier than the h.264 Pro Recorder and capture software it replaced. Setup is easy. Recording is easier. It comes with a high write speed 32GB flash drive. The only minor negative is the inability to use a USB-powered external SSD drive. I plugged in the one I always use to transfer videos and the recorder shut down. If you want to record all day at high bit rates, you need an external SSD with an AC power chord.

question

Can this loop record?
Asked by: Glenn H.
If you are referring to it having an HDMI to output the signal, yes. However if you are asking if it can loop the recording itself, that is not something this can do. That is more of a function of a Surveillance DVR. For additional assistance feel free to email us at [email protected]
