Pyle Pro PLCMHD80 overview

  • 1Description

Great for basic monitoring of video signals from a small camcorder or DSLR, the Pyle Pro 7" On-Camera Monitor features a 1280 x 800 screen resolution driven by HDMI and analog inputs. To take advantage of the HD screen resolution, the HDMI input supports 1080p, 1080i, and 720p resolutions. NTSC and PAL signals from the 3.5mm analog or HDMI input are supported as well. The 400 cd/m² LED-backlit IPS screen has wide viewing angles of 178°, and an 800:1 contrast ratio for bright colorful images. If the image gets washed out when shooting outdoors, use one of the included sun hoods to block the glare for better viewing. Powering the monitor can be done using separately available LP-E6 rechargeable batteries, or by plugging in the included power supply. With the front panel controls and custom function buttons, you can easily set up the monitor to fit your input source with aspect ratio controls, zoom, markers, freeze, image flip, and picture modes. What's more, you can use the onboard headphone output to listen to audio if your camera is not equipped with a headphone jack.

    Pyle Pro PLCMHD80 reviews

    7" On-Camera Monitor is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Battery Clip and Attachment Clip Problems The connection piece makes no sense. There is a giant screw protruding out of it for no reason. I tried to loosen it up to the edge with the allen wrench provided and it just ended stuck and the screw stripped. I looked up the manual there is no mention of it. I looked at the pictures provided to see how it's done and the picture of them connected doesn't show anything and might even be photoshopped. The box suggests that the Monitor takes LP-E6 batteries but it does not seeing as they don't fit. I wrote to the company and they apologized and told me I had to write to another of their departments without handling the problem themselves. I am on the road filming and did not have time to go back and forth with Pyle, but seeing as the monitor would only work when plugged in, and I was on the move on a stabilizer, it defeated the purpose of having the monitor in the first place. In the items defense, when plugged in it looks good and provides peaking.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a bargain I bought this because it was inexpensive and takes LPe6 batteries. The screen works OK, but overall quality is poor. The threads on the mini ball head had a different pitch than the hole in the monitor, but I was able to tap them out with a 1/4-20 tap. Then the tiny ball head fell apart, so I subbed a little Slik ball head that I wasn't using. Then I found that the HDMI-to-mini HDMI cable was bad, so I replaced that. Now it works great, but I should have returned it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Field Monitor deal for DSLR Bloggers! Overall, I like the PLCMHD80. I especially like the simplicity of the sun shade, the detail and color quality of the screen. I really love the 7 inch format for focus checking. And the assisting features for focus tracking. However, I do find that the software interface could use some improvement. The interface is too small and text could be larger. I wish a A/V input composite cable came packaged with this unit. I found it complicated when correcting image scale. I'm shooting with a Nikon D7000 DSLR and the image view is still slightly skewed. I didn't bother with the supplied mini ball head. It had a different pitch than the hole in the monitor. I would have preferred a battery mount for the Sony L series so I could use any of my many NP-F790 batteries. In the future, I will most likely replace out the Canon LP-E6 battery mount. Lastly, this unit is advertised on B&H offering two sun hoods, I received one. Overall, I like the Pyle field monitor. It does offer great value for the money.
