Wish it were better for price

I've used this adapter with the S1H on about a dozen 10-12hr production days. I like that it unlocks 24bit 48k audio, with 2 full size XLR connections. I don't like the build quality, which doesn't feel like it matches that of the S1 cameras, the S series battery grip nor the competition. For around four hundred dollars US as of Sept '22, I think it should have shoe weather sealing similar to various Canon Speedlites, and it shouldn't feel like cheap plastic. An external recorder with similar sound quality and a more confidence-inducing build costs half as much.

Works great. Almost perfect.

I'm using it with a Lumix S5 and it works great. My ONLY complaint is that I wish it had a microphone holder. The coldshoe on top is blocked by the top handle on my camera rig and I would have liked to have a mic holder on the right side, like the Sony equivalent has.

What is the maximum current the DMW-XLR1 will ...

What is the maximum current the DMW-XLR1 will supply to a phantom powered microphone? I asked this during a Lumix Live youTube broadcast and neither Matt Frazier nor Sean Robinson knew. There are microphones like the Sennheiser MKH-800 that will not sound as good if not supplied with sufficient current. The manual doesn't have this number in its table of specifications.

I seem to have lost my previous response to the Panasonic Representative - The *microphone* manufactures provides the specifications I want, but neither the manual which I downloaded for the DLW-XLR1, nor the web page here provides it. For example - Neumann KM184 - 3.2milliamps, AKG C414 XLS - 4.5 milliamps, Sennheiser MKH 800 3.0 milliamps (but it wants 48V under load, not as measure open circuit from the supply).

Does the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 work with Nikon Z8 camera?

The Panasonic DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter will only work with Lumix (Panasonic) cameras. For the Nikon Z8 you will need the TASCAM CA-XLR2d-AN XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Cameras (3.5mm Analog). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1679649-REG/tascam_ca_xlr2d_an_xlr_mic_adapter_for.html

Sorry, audio recording is disabled when shooting at variable frame rates. If audio actually was recorded, it would be so slow as to be unusable. The audio you hear in films during slow motion sequences is created. I can say from many slo-mo shots I have participated on the sound generated in real time is not very interesting. However, you can then take that sound and create meaningful effects in your editing.
