Found in: Basic Laptops

The 14" N42 Series 16GB Multi-Touch Chromebook from Lenovo is a light and portable notebook packed with helpful features for students. Powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron N3060 Dual-Core processor and 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM, the N42 Chromebook can multitask and quickly access frequently used files and programs. For pictures, files, and more, it's equipped with 16GB of eMMC flash storage. Should you need additional room, you can connect external storage solutions using its two USB ports.

Its 14" display, driven by integrated Intel HD graphics, has a 1366 x 768 resolution and features touch capabilities, allowing you to utilize touch gestures and commands to further improve its accessibility and efficiency. Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi and pair compatible wireless peripherals with Bluetooth 4.1 technology to free up USB ports for more important devices. Other integrated features include a webcam, SD card reader, and an audio in/out jack. The operating system installed is Chrome OS.

Please note that in order to take full advantage of Chrome OS, you will need to be connected to the Internet.

Light, Portable, Rugged, and Reliable
At only 3.3 lbs, the N42 Chromebook can be easily carried from classroom to classroom. Furthermore, reinforced ports and hinges add extra durability while anti-peel keys and a water-resistant keyboard increase resistance from accidents and wear. The N42 also has a fanless design and a sealed touchpad.
Easy to Manage, Simple to Share
With Google's web-based management console software, you can centrally, securely, and easily manage multiple Chromebooks. It's ideal for sharing and students can continue with their own personalized system just by signing into their own account.
Ready Right Out of the Box
Without a complicated setup, this Chromebook is ready to go right out of the box. Simply sign in with your Google account and get started in seconds. You'll have access to your data, photos, and everything else backed up with Google anywhere, anytime, and from any device.
Chrome OS
Using Linux as a base, Google designed Chrome OS to work exclusively with web applications. The user interface takes a minimalist approach, which greatly resembles the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome OS was built for people who spend a majority, if not all, of their time on the computer connected to the Internet. The only application that comes installed on Chrome OS is a special Google Chrome web browser with an integrated media player and file manager. All other applications are accessed by adding apps from the Google Chrome Web Store. Since Chrome OS relies entirely on Google's web apps and access to Google's services, it is highly recommended that you connect to the Internet to optimize your Chrome OS experience

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product at a great price I have never had a Chromebook and am very impressed with the product. The computer starts up quickly and runs smoothly. The computer was purchased to remote into my workplace server and works excellently. Very portable which was the point as this computer was purchased to use in the field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works pretty well for what I'm doing with it. I had 2 of these ordered for work purposes. We are testing them to determine if they would work as a replacement device in conjunction with technology that allows us to do work from anywhere with internet connectivity. I won't get into the wifi connectivity issues we have at work so... It, so far, does everything I need it to do. I'm surprised at the quick start times and the long battery life. Out in the field, we are connecting to the internet via cell phone hotspots. These Chromebooks are touch screen devices. This feature works but not as well as say the things produced by ifruit. I really didn't expect them to and for our purposes, I don't care. We aren't used to having the touch screen so it isn't going to be missed if it isn't all that great. What I like about it is the very low cost. With all the software we install on our in office laptops, they cost us between $1,500 and $2,000 each. They last us about 3 years. If these things only last one year, I'm still only spending $750 or half of what we spend on the low end. I am still waiting to see how they survive with the abuse our people will inflict on them. I have been less than nice to the one I'm using/testing and so far no issues at all. I haven't tried it yet but with the HDMI port, I could connect this to a projector and do presentations. The only draw back I see at this point is when I use it a LOT (heavy use for several hours in a row) there are odd messages appearing on the desktop like I have right clicked out there. I didn't. With the fast restart of the Chromebook, I just save my work, close out of everything and power off and back on. It seems to catch it's breath and work just fine after that. I should say, I have loaded a stupid time wasting game on it and it seemed to be lagging a bit when I played it. If my boss is reading this review, I did that at home to test how it performed... I am thinking about buying one of these for home use. If you are going to do some web surfing, reading and writing email, and going onto social media, this thing will do well. If you are going to edit videos, then I think you will be disappointed. Although, I didn't try to edit one so I could be surprised. I did figure out how to disable the trackpad (I'm old) and connect a wireless mouse. That woks very well. I've inserted SD cards to view photos and short videos and so far so good. I'm going to have to learn more about Google Docs and Drive so I can have a place to store more data as the data storage is limited. All in all, I would say I'm very impressed with this device considering how little we spent on it. I would recommend this to anyone who has been toying with the idea of getting one. It's the very first one I've used and so I might not know as much as others. My son is a senior in highschool. His school has been issuing Lenovo Chromebooks for a couple years now. He has been teaching me tips and tricks. His isn't a touch screen and he likes mine better. When I asked if he liked our laptop at home or his Chromebook better, he said he liked the Chromebook better. I asked why and he said it did everything he needed, weighed a lot less and the battery life was a lot better. He only uses our home laptop when he needs to print something. (The school won't let him load our home printer.) He rarely uses a printer though because they do most things in Google Docs/Drive. Not a plug, just sayin'... Nearly forgot, the weight of this thing is next to nothing. I don't know its exact weight but compared to my laptop, it's body fat must be at 1%.
