Moultrie M40 overview

  • 1Description

Capture 16MP photos and HD 1080p video of wildlife and people with the Moultrie M-40 Trail Camera in Moultrie Pine camo. This trail cam's PIR motion sensor has an 80-foot range and a trigger speed of just 0.3 seconds, and you can program it to operate in time-lapse mode at selectable intervals so you can see patterns and changes over time.

Benefit from an infrared flash with 32 LEDs and a 100-foot range for discreet nighttime illumination. To aid your night shots further, the camera uses fast shutter speeds after dark to reduce subject motion blur for optimal clarity. The M-40 records photos and videos to optional SD/SDHC memory cards up to 32GB. Power is provided by 8 optional AA batteries or an external power supply.

Photo and Video Resolution
  • Maximum still image resolution: 16MP
  • HD 1920 x 1080 video with sound
Motion Sensor
  • Passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor detects the changes in temperature that occur when subjects move, and captures images in response
  • Motion detection range: 80'
  • Trigger speed: 0.3 sec
Interval Recording
  • Can be programmed to operate in time-lapse mode at selectable intervals, such as every 30 sec or every 1 min for a duration of 1 or a few hours, allowing you to see patterns and change over time
  • Time-lapse mode can be scheduled at different times of day to allow for monitoring dusk and dawn activity
Hybrid Mode
  • Enables camera to be triggered by both motion sensor and time-lapse function
  • If an animal or trespasser moves into detection zone in between time-lapse intervals, motion sensor will pick up movement so camera won't miss the shot
  • Nighttime infrared flash with 32 LEDs and 100-foot range in total darkness for covert nighttime illumination
  • Offers illumination while remaining discreet, so wildlife and humans will most likely not be able to notice it and be spooked/alerted
Motion Blur Reduction
  • Utilizes fast shutter speeds to minimize subject motion blur for clear nighttime images

    Moultrie M40 reviews

M-40 Trail Camera is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor User Interface & Documentation The camera works well,,,, the challenge is figuring out how to set it up....The user guide is so poorly written it is pretty much useless and I was able to figure out set up through other on-line user reviews.. You need help setting the camera up because of the difficult menu interface. While it has a default setting, it may not be optimum for the camera placement and trying to configure a custom start is challenging trying to scroll through settings. The company needs to at least post a revised user guide edited by a competent technical writer on their web site.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic casing broke in less than a month This was my second Moultrie M-40 game camera, which I use to record wildlife in my backyard. First of all, the hinges on the panel covering the menu cracked within a couple of weeks with only very light use. Secondly, the camera worked fine the first week but after that would record approximately 1200 images of nothing in just a couple of days. This could not be corrected using the menu setting on sensitivity or mode and the camera was not mounted near foliage disturbed by wind. This camera is a much cheaper, less hefty version of the one I bought several years ago. Disappointing, and B&H is not honoring the 30 day return on this purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as other Moultrie Trail Cameras I am a fan of Moultrie trail cameras and have gotten very good results with the A30i for image quality and outdoors durability. Not so with the M-40. Not as easy to set up with a poor user interface and the image quality is average. I have owned it a few months and the batteries are at 99% but a recent check showed the date and time are way off. It can't keep time! Other quirky things abound, such as the menu button is only there to turn the display light on, nothing more. When the camera is switched on to operate, menu items cycle thru numerous times before it stops and the countdown starts to go live. Very peculiar and confusing as it should go directly to the countdown when selected. Overall, very disappointed as I had a good user experience and images with the A30i. I will not buy the M-40 again.
