Korg BTLMINI overview

  • 1Description

The BEATLAB mini from Korg is a metronome and rhythm trainer that ships with the CM-200 contact microphone and is designed for drummers and percussionists wishing to develop their sense of rhythm using the onboard interactive training modes. Using a standard metronome is great for developing your timing and sense of rhythm, but can be excruciatingly dull and boring.

With the BEATLAB mini, practicing and training becomes much more fun and enjoyable as the device breaks away from the monotony and provides accurate interactive training that includes a wide range of sounds such as male and female voices, as well as 30 real drum patterns utilizing PCM sampled drum sounds. The unit can detect and evaluate discrepancy between the metronome and the notes that you play. Develop a perfect sense of rhythm by treating your training as if you were playing a game.

Additional features include a "Sound Out" function for conveniently tuning your drums, a timer/stopwatch for keeping time during rehearsals or while performing onstage, and a high-volume built-in speaker and headphone output. The large LCD is easy to see in any lighting condition and the folding stand also works as a belt clip to keep the BEATLAB mini out of the way during practice or performance. The CM-200 contract microphone can be attached to a snare drum, practice pad, or even a magazine for impromptu practicing while on the go. The BEATLAB mini is powered by the included AAA batteries.

    Korg BTLMINI reviews

BEATLAB mini Rhythm Trainer with CM200 Microphone is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Palm sized metronome for Acoustic & Finger Drummers If you need a metronome with various rhythm patterns to practice your drumming this device may be for you! The form factor of this device is just like a stopwatch. You have two main buttons on top and a few on the bottom. There are two main functions with this device, metronome mode & training mode. The other 3 modes are for: 1. Setting reference pitch & frequency. 2. Selecting male, female, or none (voices for training), calibrating the CM200 Microphone, and difficulty level (there are 6 for training). 3. Stopwatch/countdown timer...and the up/down buttons for settings in the menu. That's it! Most of the action will happen in 'metronome mode'. This is where you set your bpm's, tempo, beats, notes & patterns. Training mode is where you use the included contact microphone; which can be attached to your acoustic drum, practice pad, or anything that you strike with drum sticks or fingers. There are patterns that you play along with to work on your timing. The only thing about training mode is that it only goes to eight bars. But, at least you can increase the difficulty level to six and settings you have in metronome mode can be used in training mode. The instructions describe most of the features but there is one it doesn't. When you select the pattern (P, in metronome mode) press the button again and you will have 30 patterns to select. The first 23 have a snare sound, the 24th has a cymbal sound, and 25-30 have a clave sound. The device itself has a headphone jack, runs on two AAA batteries (included), a built in (metal wire) desk stand/belt clip, 3 level light switch, volume control, flashing green light, and on/off button. So, overall i like this device. It's portable, has various beat/rhythm patterns to practice with and menu changes can be made while it's playing.
