Enjoy spoken turn-by-turn directions throughout North America, a 7" pinch-to-zoom screen, live traffic updates and parking info, and hands-free calling with the DriveSmart 61 Navigation System by Garmin. The system comes with numerous features to make driving safer and easier, including alerts for road hazards (or your own fatigue), easy-to-understand directions using landmarks and businesses, and directions within complex locations like airports and mall parking lots.

Sync a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as your smartphone, for hands-free calling, receiving smart notifications, text messages, and calendar reminders without taking your hands off the wheel. You can also get directions by talking instead of touching, thanks to the unit's voice-activated navigation capability. When a map or software update is available, you'll be notified, and the DriveSmart will download the update automatically using your home WiFi network.

Along with map data, the navigator is populated with TripAdvisor points of interest such as hotels, restaurants and attractions near your destination and along the way, and information from Foursquare on millions of local destinations. You can also customize the device with up to 1,000 destinations of your choosing. Active lane assist with voice prompts and junction view ensure that you are in the right lane of travel at tricky interchanges, while route shaping helps you pick the most efficient way to get where you're going. The system is compatible with Garmin smartwatches and the BC30 Wireless Backup Camera, both sold separately.

Live Traffic and Parking Info
Pair the navigator with your compatible mobile device using the free Smartphone Link app, and you'll have traffic alerts, relevant rerouting suggestions, pricing for parking facilities, and availability trends for on-street public parking. The app also enables LiveTrack, which lets you share your location with family or friends.
Driver Alerts
The DriveSmart will alert you to sharp curves, speed limit changes, railroad crossings, animal crossings, and school zones, and will warn you if you end up going the wrong way on a one-way road, or if you've been driving for too long without a break. In jurisdictions where it is permitted, it will warn you about red-light and speed cameras.
Hands-Free Calling
Synch a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as your smartphone, for hands-free calling and receive text messages and calendar reminders without taking your hands off the wheel. Customizable smart notifications appear on the navigation display.
Real Directions
Garmin's Real Directions feature uses recognizable landmarks, buildings, and intersections to let you know when and where to turn.
Points of Interest
The DriveSmart provides info from TripAdvisor on hotels, restaurants and attractions at your destination and on your journey, along with Foursquare data on millions of restaurants, entertainment venues, shops and other points of interest.
Smartwatch & Camera Compatibility
Pair with compatible Garmin smartwatches for driver alerts on your wrist and compass guidance to find your car, and with Garmin's BC 30 Backup Camera for dramatically improved safety (smartwatches and backup camera sold separately).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice update but missing old features My last Garmin was the Nvi 3590LMT (5), which I bought 5 years ago. Although it had life time maps, the unit was beginning to power off even when plugged in. Plus it's 5 years old! A relic these days. Things I like: - The higher resolution of the 6.95 screen is greatly appreciated. Also with the extra screen size, I don't have to stare at the GPS for an extra second or two to focus on the map. - Smartlinking to my iPhone was easy, and it provided traffic, weather, and Foursquare access. All of which are helpful. - Matte finish screen. No glare on this model. Things I do not like: - My old model had 4 metrics to display on screen. Even on the 5 screen, I still had enough real estate to get time of arrival, distance, elevation, and direction on the display. This one only have 2 but at least they can be changed. - Screen does not rotate. I used the 3590LMT in Portrait format so I can see more of the map farther down the road. You're stuck on landscape mode with this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would buy again and probably will purchase a spare. Best GPS I have ever used. Recently used it on a 3400 mile trip. Several features were really appreciated. Search for specific cities works great as does searches for specific addresses. Recent locations and saved locations made returning to previously set locations a breeze. Even my wife commented on how handy this GPS was to use. It found gasoline stations and restaurants we would not have known about without it, and took us right to them. Locates satellites quickly. And the wifi feature makes updates as easy as pushing a button. This GPS has the features and capabilities I have wanted in a GPS for years. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I purchased this as a gift for someone. The super-large screen made a beautiful impression and was extremely clear. It turned out to be defective(the screen shut while in use even fully charged) but B & H was very good about it and refunded me right away. Note that the traffic update system needs a smartphone in order to work. I wasn't aware of that. I didn't like it, so a rep from B & H spoke with Garmin and found a GPS that would work for me. I would definitely recommend this if the smartphone accessibility works for you, and B & H's customer service rated five-star, as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In Love with Voice Command Recently upgraded to the DriveSmart 61 from a much older Garmin, and so glad I did. Large screen is easy to read. Selecting items can be done with a light touch. Nice change from my older model which required a very firm push to select anything. Obviously haven't tried out all the features yet, but one I really love is Voice Command. Makes it convenient to initiate a search even while driving and still keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin has a winner! Nice clear large screen and wonderful set of features. It found the most rural to city addresses and places. The voice feature worked great for me. Bluetooth with my phone was a little problematic. A call would often cause the Garmin to reboot. It has a nice subtle tone if you exceed the speed limit. It will continue to beep every 20 seconds if you are more than 5 mph over the limit. Unlike my older Garmin which took a long time to turn on, this one is instant! Garmin did it right with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it - except for a couple minor nits The matte finish screen on the old Nuvi seemed like a good idea to reduce glare - until used in bright sunlight where the matte screen was hard to read and was a distraction. The glossy screen on the DriveSmart reflects a little more; however, the larger screen is much easier to read under all conditions. The increase in reflectance is a minor tradeoff to get a much more usable display with less distraction. This GPS has great readability because of its size. Getting the mount off a steeply sloped windshield is good as the unit may not be able to be aimed exactly as wanted because it's big enough to contact the windshield before it can be adjusted optimally. An easy and excellent solution is the Garmin Air vent mount to that gets the GPS off the windshield AND gets it closer to the driver where it can be reached without leaning forward and stretching. I highly recommend this GPS due to its large display, readability, flexibility in mounting, and the many features (Wi-Fi connectivity for updates, continued support of third party POIs, easy access to on-screen tools, and even the less-than-perfect Voice Command). Now the nits. The Voice Command is not ideal. Sometimes it fails to recognize the activation phrase. Even with no radio to interfere, the voice command function often fails to activate when commanded. This improved with the relocation away from the windshield and closer to the driver; however, it's still problematic and requires some patience. Still, it's a net plus. The Curve Warning function warns of the least little curve in the highway - so much so that I turned it off. The mount does not incorporate the power connection like the old Nuvi. The cable must be plugged in every time the GPS is mounted. Road names aren't always clear; e.g - US Rt 15 through Maryland is identified as Journey Through Hallowed Ground Byway. Who knew? I live there and drive that road every day and it confused me. Garmin should stick to commonly recognized names.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from GTM 60 HD Traffic receiver not compatible with BC 30 camera The Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S GPS unit and the Garmin bc30 wireless backup camera are not compatible if you use the Garmin GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receiver cable as your power cable for the Drivesmart 61. Which is sad since the HD 60 is the superior traffic/receiver cable. No literature from Garmin or B & H points this out. That means if you want the best HD 60 traffic receiver for your GPS, don't waste your money on the BC 30 back up camera, it won't work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The second one works! The first one that I received was bad because the touch screen sensor was bad (according to Garmin tech) and it was overheating and going bonkers right out of the box. But they replaced it for free and now the second one seems to be working fine. I have to talk fairly loud for voice commands and turn off the radio volume to get things started but it seems to responds well to voice commands. Disappointed that I can't get traffic unless I buy an antenna power cord or use the app on my smart phone (with data use- Garmin thinks it is a small amount but I will probably try that before buying an extra power cord). I knew this before buying but it is still a negative for this product. I wanted one with HD traffic but only the older ones have HD traffic now. Makes you wonder how long HD traffic will be around since Garmin is phasing it out. The large screen is very nice but you have to have a good place to put it so it doesn't block your view. I've had several Garmin products in the past and prefer them to built in Nav units in my cars since you can update them and they give better directions than the Nav systems that I have seen. They are also pretty easy to use. The voice commands makes it even easier so far.
