Fujifilm 50mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

A sleek short telephoto prime for Fujifilm X-series mirrorless cameras, the silver XF 50mm f/2 R WR Lens offers a 76mm equivalent focal length to suit a variety of applications, including portraiture and still lifes. The lightweight design and bright f/2 maximum aperture benefit working in low-light conditions and also afford a high degree of control over depth of field for selective focus techniques. Autofocus is fast, precise, and near-silent to suit both photo and video shooting, and the lens is also weather-sealed and is rated to work in temperatures as low as 14°F. Additionally, a Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating) coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

Providing a 76mm equivalent focal length, this portrait-length prime is well-suited for a wide variety of shooting applications.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over focus when working with shallow depth of field or selective focus techniques.
Autofocus performance is both fast and near silent to suit both photo and video applications.
A Super Electron Beam Coating (EBC) has been applied to the lens for controlling ghosting and flare, and greater image clarity.
Weather seals are placed about the lens barrel to protect against dust, moisture, and temperatures as low as 14°F.

    Fujifilm 50mm f/2.0 reviews

XF 50mm f/2 R WR Lens (Silver) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of Fuji's Best! Great lens! Razor sharp, crisp contrast and has beautiful bokeh. I shoot on Fuji cameras and have shot with a good amount of the Fuji lenses and have to say this is up there in terms of quality. Before this I would've said the 35mm F2 was my favorite lens but this is definitely more crisp and has better bokeh of course. (75mm eq) This lens is for a different purpose then the 35 F2 but it continues to surprise me. I can't imagine finding someone who doesn't like this lens honestly. Can't think of any cons for this lens, just pros: nice size (Med-small), crisp contrast, pin sharp, beautiful creamy bokeh, super fast auto focus (faster than 35 F2), basically silent auto focus, and a good portrait lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great 'Fujicron' Build quality is top notch, rings all turn nice, and weather sealing is great for light rain or dust. This lens is small and light and balances well on any Fuji body. The lens hood is reversible and not too large. I do wish they had managed to keep the same filter thread size as the 23 and 35f2 lenses. Auto-Focus is a touch slower than the 35mmf2, but faster than any of the older lenses. Imaging is sharp even wide open and rendering is beautiful. I don't see any barrel distortion or softness at close focus distances. If you're a fan of the 23 or the 35, you'll like the new 50mm. The question then is about the focal length. 75mm equivalent is uncommon, but I'm finding it a useful focal length. Think of it like a longer normal lens. It'd be great for travel when you want a little more pull, for candid portraits, product shots, or even street photography. I plan on carrying the 23mmf2 and the 50mmf2 around as a daily kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, fast, and compact!!! This lens is amazing. Razor sharp from wide open. Fast to focus vs other Fuji telephotos. And compact/small/light. Paired with the 23 f2 this is a dream combo, particularly for the X-Pro 2 and its hybrid viewfinder. These two lenses cover 80% of my need, with the 16mm 1.4 and a telephoto zoom covering the other 20%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Compliment for a Trio of Street Lenses I shoot the 16, 35 f2, and this almost everyday. For some reason, the 75 full frame size has always fit my eye and when I shot Leica, I used that lens about 40% of the time. While I love the 56 1.2, it is now for me, like a lot of other people, a studio or special occasion lens due to the weight and I do not shoot that much when I need a 1-3 depth of field so the F2 is just fine with me. I also have the Zeiss 50 and the only advantage the Zeiss has is it is a true macro lens, which Fuji has yet to make as the 60 is merely a close focus lens. Anyone who likes the 75 mm length, will love this lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unusual focal length, but an awesome lens! I purchased the XF 50mm f2 to complete the trilogy of the Fuji compact weather sealed primes. I just got back from a week in Iceland and I shot a a lot with this lens on my X-T2. The images are crisp and lens focuses fast and is a joy to use. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed This lens is exactly how I imagined it would be: very compact, well made, quite, and quick. Autofocus is very quick and near silent. I like the way the included hood reverses for storage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice So far so good. Nice build and super small. It seems much smaller in hand than it does in pictures. This is also a WR lens. Even though it is nice I do wish it was a little cheaper so it was more comparable or in the ballpark to a typical nifty fifty price which are usually F1.8. Besides that it has a nice build and it seems usable sharp wide open. Color and contrast seem to be well controlled. I will be picking up the 35 as well. If you need more separation than maybe the 56 would be the better choice for you. The 56 is not WR though

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great WR F/2 lens from Fujifilm! I thought maybe sharing my experiences on the new 50mm f/2 here might help some folks. I'm not going to talk about technical aspects, just how I like it and where I feel it sits and maybe if it's worth it. I received my 50mm f/2 last Friday and had a chance to shoot with it over the weekend.. I like it a lot. It met my expectations of what the focal length could do for me. For usage, I found the 75mm equiv. field of view less restricting than an 85mm.. which is what the Fujinon 56mm f/1.2 basically is. I was tempted to switch to my 23mm f/2 (a 35mm equiv.) at times, but I framed up my shot with the 50 and what I wanted to capture fit with a little room to spare. I don't expect this to be the case with everyone else, but for me, it's actually a very comfortable lens to work with. Quite a versatile little lens and better range of usage than some might originally believe it may not have. As for the image quality, I love it. Even with max aperture of f/2, it has a good amount of subject isolation with nice bokeh.. I am discovering I am really liking the quality of the depth of the images I was making with the 50mm f/2. Color rendition is about as good as any of the other nice Fujinon prime lenses. Will it replace or make me want to sell my 56mm f/1.2?... I don't think so.. I don't feel they are equivalent lenses to say one would or should directly replace one or the other. Is it worth $450? I think so. For native Fujinon prime lenses, it's actually one of the least expensive.. and you get a lot for the price.. accurate, fast & silent AF, compact & light, great build, WR.. works particularly great with an X-Pro2, as I have, due to minimal OVF obstruction.. and if you want a 50mm lens that works with the OVF (useful real-time framelines parallax adjustments), this is pretty much the only option. I was thinking about the lens again today and if this is any revelation, I feel this 50 works and fits comfortably somewhere in the middle between 2 more popular focal len
