YES!! FIVE STARS!!!

While everyone else is whining about this grip,....I find it quite comfortable and well designed and laid out. After having it only one day, I did a two day model shoot. By the end of the shoot I no longer had to take my eye from the view finder to find anything. I DID find that the camera was surprisingly power hungry tho,.....so I see this item as a MUST HAVE. {buy a battery for the grip and an extra to keep on the charger when doing long shoots.....} Recommended!!

Poorly designed.

I don't have or own it but I usually rent Fujifilm GFX 50S with this grip for more than 10 times so far. But I seriously feel that Fujifilm didn't design this grip so poorly. 1. You can put only one battery but seriously? GFX100 can take 2 easily so this is something that you cant understand easily. It's purely fine but really? Why not 2 instead of 1? There is enough space to put two batteries like GFX100. 2. The vertical grip itself is horrible. If you use it horizontally, that's fine but not vertically. As you can see, the grip itself covers only the size of the camera without a grip! Why didn't they design it like other vertical grips? That's really short and I don't see the point of using this grip. They should've designed it higher. It's just stupid. Overall, the vertical battery grip is poorly designed that I can use it properly especially with 250mm F4.

If you need it...

You can find my reviews on many other GF series products and you will see that I am in love with the camera system. My goal was ultimate image quality for the types of photography I use the system for and Fujifilm has delivered in truly epic fashion. But the 5 star ratings for the camera body and the (incredible, amazing, unbelievable) lenses hide some of my annoyances with the system as a whole. Turns out the Vertical Battery Grip (VBG) perfectly highlights the two things that bug me about the GF system. - Overpriced. I gave in and bought this after a price drop and it is still very expensive. My history with brand name grips is they make the resale value of a new car you drive off the lot look good. - Questionable ergonomics. I own the GFX (obviously) and I also own an X100F and while I understand why some of the romantics wax eloquent about the use of dials on Fuji cams - as an old guy I remember seeing and embracing the future when I bought my F5. This doesn't help the GFX in the erg department. To be fair - the grip is good in that it actually improves the overall handling of the camera - but it of course doesn't have dials. So you either have to reprogram the camera to take advantage of the dial functions using the wheels (at which point you have to wonder why the camera has the dials in the first place) or you have to ignore the well placed controls on the grip and instead fumble awkwardly with your now extremely heavy camera as you try to find the dials on the side of the camera (since it is now in a portrait layout). There are also a few positives. - I have a Syrp that I use for extended timelapses and this obviously helps a lot with extending shooting times. A LOT. - For all of the ergonomic flaws of the GF system - the side loading battery idea is an ergonomic home run on the camera and on the grip. - The build quality is top notch which is true of everything I have touched so far from Fuji. Of course with no competition - if you need a grip you will buy this regardless of the rating and the price. I just can't imagine ever being thrilled with it like I am with the camera and those incredible lenses.
