Really Right Stuff BOEM1MKII-L Overview

Dedicated to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and E-M1 Mark III cameras, this L-Plate Set from Really Right Stuff has a modular design composed of a separate base plate and an L-component. Both parts create an L-plate, which can be changed while on top of a tripod, from a vertical to a horizontal position without sacrificing your center of axis. The Arca-type compatible dovetail plate adds quick release functionality to the camera, and there is a magnetic storage spot for the included hex key.

The L-plate maintains complete access to the battery door and the camera's ports. Both parts can be separated slightly, and re-tightened with the included hex key if more room is needed for your tethering or cable release. Furthermore, there is no obstruction to the movement of the LCD monitor on the camera. In addition, a boss has been machined into the side of the plate, so an accessory hand or shoulder strap can fit.

Type II black anodizing has been applied to the CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum. The anodizing has given the L-plate a smooth surface, which is resistant to scuffs, scratches, and corrosion. Furthermore, the L-plate has a laser engraved center marks on the back of each axis for alignment on a head.

I'm sure it is great... for people who need specific purpose

First off I am returning this item because it does not fulfill my intended need but for someone who is looking for something else this would be a great item. The bracket is of very durable construction and I would not be worried about it being safely used with thousands of dollars of camera and lenses. A major positive over other L brackets is this is designed specifically for the Olympus EM-1 mk II & III which means it doesn't obstruct the battery door. The side bracket will slightly obstruct moving the LCD screen and never fully sits flush the side of the camera. What failed for me and is not a flaw in the product description but rather a flaw in my interpretation of the product images. There appear to be holes in the bottom of the bracket under the hand grip and on the side piece which look like they can accept a tripod type screw. They are not. I bought this with the intent of being able to screw in the BlackRapid Sport Sling and not have the tripod mounting obstructed thinking I could attach the sling to these side holes but they are just holes, not threaded holes. So in the end I would only be able to attach the sling to the underside section where it would attach to the tripod. This defeats the intent of buying this item. Combined with the price, the minor annoyance of the side piece not sitting flush, and the obstruction to the use of the LCD screen I am forced to return this item. As always BH services is fantastic. Super fast shipping. Perfect return window. I always trust in shopping at BH.

I wasn't sure about spending this much on a L-plate but the fit is perfect and provides use of the screen. It's light and doesn't make much difference on handling the camera. B&H assisted me on the right plate to fit my Manfrotto tripod and I can't wait to get out and use it!

This is adjustable, and the contour fit my EM-1ii perfectly. It has adjustments with an Allen wrench that adheres to the base with magnets. What a great idea! No more, where is my wrench?

The plate that I received seems to be a new model, with improvements that do not require moving the L-plate attachment for rotating the LCD panel or accessing the electronic ports. This is in comparison to the reviews of the same model. It fits fine and seems to do its job.

Great L plate but realize that if you are used to opening the Olympus screen and photographing with an open screen, thr screen will not open fully as it will hit the side L bracket. You can open the screen enough to flip it and close it into the camera.

Is there an L-bracket compatible with the manfrotto 290 dual tripod? If not, is there a plate that can be used with this L-bracket and the manfrotto tripod? Thank you!
Asked by: Pamela
The Manfrotto 290-dual uses Manfrotto's 200PL proprietary plate and there currently isn't an L-bracket designed to work with them. You are able to attach a 200PL to the bottom of the L-bracket but not the L-component. In both cases, this defeats the purposes of the RRS L-bracket set for the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II/III.
