Really Right Stuff BOEM1MKII L-SET overview

  • 1Description

The L-Plate Set for Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II from Really Right Stuff is a modular design composed of a base plate and an L-component. Both parts create an L-plate, which can be changed while on top of a tripod, from a vertical to a horizontal position without sacrificing your center of axis. The Arca-type compatible dovetail plate adds quick release functionality to the camera, and there is a magnetic storage spot for the included hex key.

The L-plate maintains complete access to the battery door and the camera's ports. Both parts can be separated slightly, and retightened with the included hex key if more room is needed for your tethering or cable release. Furthermore, there is no obstruction to the movement of the LCD monitor on the camera. In addition, a boss has been machined into the side of the plate, so an accessory hand or shoulder strap can fit.

Type II black anodizing has been applied to the CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum. The anodizing has given the L-plate a smooth surface, which is resistant to scuffs, scratches, and corrosion. Furthermore, the L-plate has a laser engraved center marks on the back of each axis for alignment on a head.

Really Right Stuff BOEM1MKII L-SET reviews

L-Plate Set for Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well engineered and superb quality Well engineered and superb quality. A bit pricey but will outlast the camera. This will be really useful for landscape photography with tripod. It will also allow me to securely attach the camera to my Promediagear Booemerang flash bracket. I found with a standard Arca plate the camera was twisting and insecure. This plate (can be used without the L-bracket side plate) will completely prevent any twisting of the camera and makes for a rigid set up which will even allow on camera use of a Godox AD200 flash unit. An extra bonus is that it does improve (extend) the grip of the OMD EM1 Mk2 for those who find the camera grip a bit small for their hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality L-Plate for Olympus OM-D-E-M1 Mark II I have purchased a number of Really Right Stuff products over the years and I am very pleased with the quality of the product. The L-Plate is custom made for the exact model of the camera. That way the plate fits perfectly on the base of the camera. The advantage of the L-Plate is that the camera sits on the tripod head and when changing from landscape mode to portrait mode it just takes a moment to slide the plate to that position and you are all set. Otherwise you would have to put the camera into the slot of the tripod head and then have to recompose the shot. Also the camera is off to the side of the tripod and not balanced.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from High quality, great Fit - but not for everyone I was excited to see how well the base plate was constructed, and fit the camera. I use my tripod quite frequently so having a stable, semi-permanent ARCA attachment point is fantastic. Unfortunately, I prefer ball heads that feature a spring-loaded detent pin that prevents a camera from sliding off the ball head mount unless a release button is pushed. The configuration of the bottom of the RRS base plate limits placement on a ballhead clamp with a detent pin (Sirui K20 for example). If fact, the camera will only mount slightly off centeron the ball head. Regretfully I have returned the item and will look for alternative base plates I am sure will follow from other vendors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loose magnets underneath upon delivery I got this plate with magnets fallen out of it's grooves. It even seems like one of the grooves are too wide for one of the magnets. Did NOT expect this from RRS. Maybe just a blue monday product, hopefully. Glue will do. Still, did NOT expect this from RRS. It's just the magnets holding the key tool. So it's OK. But reduction of 2 stars for sure. And it's not like I can't or won't send it back, but since I don't have any other plates or brackets that fit to my standard i'll be keeping this. International orders as well, so..Go figure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Typically well made RRS Product Typically well made and fits very well. Modular design means you can drop the side support off if desired or move away from the body to permit some flexibility on opening the screen. Magnetic retention of allen key is quite clever. Two limitations that may or may not matter to you: 1) with the side support in you can't fully open the articulating screen and 2) doesn't fit with the Olympus battery grip attached. To be fair it looks like it will take quite a different L-grip design to accommodate the battery grip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant design Amazing design. From the allen key attached by magnets in the base so it's always available, to the end that slides out somewhat to give more clearance for the rotating screen, or even remove completely. It's relatively lightweight and fits the base of the OM-D E-M1 ii perfectly. Well done RRS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but solid. Expensive but solidly engineered plate system. L part slides out about an inch, which allows the screen to move enough to use. The main plate adds a bit more to the depth of the camera than most plates, which is good for handling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit The only L-plate for Olympus E-M1 Mark II that allow the LCD screen to move to an upright position. Easy access to batterie and connectors. You get what you pay for.
