TASCAM TM-280 Reviews

I had been looking for an affordable large diaphragm mic for my studio when I got the email offer. I put the mic right to work on my latest project and the results were way beyond my expectations. The clarity and response was excellent. The affordability aside this mic is the perfect mic for my studio at any price!

I wasn't familiar with the Tascam Mic and took a little chance buying it - actually buying TWO of them. The Mic far exceeded my expectations. Great audio sound with very little self noise. Highly recommended!

Great Mic at a great price!

The Tascam TM-280 is a warm sounding Mic. I compared it to my vintage Rode NT-2 and liked it a bit better. It was a little darker sounding and not so bright. As always, you have to try different mics on different people so what sounds great on one person may not on another.

Extremely smooth, and sensitive. Warm professional sound.

I wanted an extra-large diaphragm mic next to my AT2020. In the voice range, either will do, but the TM-280 has a very smooth, rich bass. High end seems not as strong, but it's easy to add a slow ramp up on the EQ in your processer or DAW if you want that stinging NT-1A sound. In a tight booth, it reacts a lot more to nearby walls than the AT2020, so I keep it 12inches or more from the walls. Given the sensitivity, I use it with the pop filter off. On that and the AT2020, it keeps the 'ssss' sound from sometimes turning to 'shhh..' after a sudden word start. You only need to avert your mouth a little from straight on, and (for either mic) it adds just a little more polish to the sound.. But at 10 inches away, the TM-280 never seems to pop anyhow.. Smooooth is the keyword for this mic.

Can this microphone and its shockmount be used inverted (on a boom arm)? I don't see this illustrated or mentioned.
Asked by: Donald
The Tascam TM-280 Studio Microphone with Flight Case, Shockmount, and Pop Filter is not designed to mount the microphone in an upside down, inverted fashion. The microphone screws into the mount and could, in theory, be mounted in this manner, but it is not recommended.
