Genaray Essential overview

  • 1Description

The SpectroLED Essential 365 Bi-Color LED Light by Genaray is a 360 LED panel with color temperature that's variable from tungsten-balanced 3200K to daylight-balanced 5600K or anywhere in between. Instead of fumbling with filters you can match other light sources or ambient light conditions, or just use color creatively. Light intensity is also variable from 100 - 0% without color shift or flickering.

The SpectroLED Essential 365 offers a 60° flood beam angle and a high CRI for precise and faithful color rendering. The 9.25 x 13.6 x 2.2" panel weighs just 2.5 lb and with its slim profile and barely perceptible warmth can be placed in areas that traditional fixtures just can't go. Another benefit of using LEDs is low power draw; although it uses just 40W of power, it outputs many times that number meaning a rapid return on investment. If you need more power Genaray has got that covered too; the light's included clips allow you to stack up to 3 units for triple the power. You can even daisy-chain several units using the separately purchased SP-E-MLC Multi Link Cable which allows one master unit to control the color and light intensity of the others.

Power options are equally versatile. Use the included multi-voltage AC adapter to run the SpectroLED anywhere in the world, or shed the power cord and employ two optional Sony L-series NP-F type batteries when mains current is unavailable.

Adjustable Color Temperature
Variable color output from 3200-5600K allows you to balance color without filters.
100-0% Dimming
The SpectroLED is dimmable from 100 - 0% without color shift and flicker.
High CRI
The SpectroLED's high CRI rating ensures vibrant, accurate rendition of color.
Battery or AC Power
Power your light with the included multi-voltage AC adapter or with two optional Sony L-series NP-F batteries when mains power is unavailable.
Flexible Mounting
The light has an industry-standard 5/8" receiver for stand mounting as well as 1/4"-20 top and bottom taps for stacking and supports such as ball heads.
Daisy-Chain Control
Using Genaray's SP-E-MLC Multi Link Cable, you can connect multiple SpectroLEDs together and control color and brightness from one master unit.
Thanks to its removable yoke, you can use the included clips to stack up to 3 lights for triple the power.

    Genaray Essential reviews

SpectroLED Essential 365 Bi-Color LED Light is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Light in a Small Package What I really like about this light is that it's small enough (just barely) to slip into the top zipper of my camera bag backpack, meaning I can haul it anywhere without any extra hassle. It runs off batteries or a power cord, doesn't get hot, and changes from daylight to tungsten at the turn of a knob, all of which makes this a convenient addition to my lighting kit. A few things keep this from getting 5 stars. The first is the design of the included diffuser-it clips into the face of the light, but it's too big. If you try to angle the light all the way downward, the diffuser gets in the way. The simple fix is that you need to trim the bottom of the diffuser yourself. Also, not a huge deal, but it takes two knob adjustments to change the angle of the light. One would be better. I was excited about this light because I have a Genaray light that I absolutely love, their new 10-inch Crux, which goes for about the same price. I still like the Crux better, but it's not as portable. So when I need something that fits in my bag, this one will come with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stackable Light I have a few Genaray LED's on hand and this would be the lightest. It is lightweight but sturdy and I love how all the Genaray lights tighten down(yoke) without any play whatsoever. Most of my LED's are Bi-color like this but I do not have any previous lights in this rectangular shape. I find that it helps for a nice wrap around. The diffuser panel is a little different but its still nice. It does not slide in but sort of arcs/bends into place to help soften the light. I use some sort of diffusion with all my LED's. This can take two Sony Batteries but you need to have both with charge in order to use that feature. There is not a digital readout of the color temperatures/output but it is a simple design with rotary knobs to adjust color and the other for output. There is also a power meter you can push in to see how much charge you have on your batteries. This is a must have when shooting portable. This sounds like a simple thing but I love how easy the Sony batteries are to remove. The tabs allow to remove them without any hassle. Some of my other lights are really difficult for some reason. What makes this light unique is the ability to stack and daisy chain them together with their multi link cord. I only have one of these lights but that sounds like an awesome feature if you have more than one of these. Nice output with accurate color/CRI in a compact size. As is, I personally think its best for a fill light but you could still use it for an up close one person type of Key light if necessary. If you stack these lights you could easily use it as a Key. This one also has a power brick attached to the cord but the cords itself are plenty long with all the Genaray lights that I have experience with.
