With KanexPro's 4K HDMI Audio De-Embedder you can de-embed multi-channel audio from nearly any format and convert it to LPCM or stereo analog for compatibility with legacy receivers or amplifiers. High bit-rate codecs such as Dolby Atmos and DTS-MA are supported to ensure compatibility with Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray formats. 4K, HD, or SD video is passed through the HDMI output along with audio. For EDID management, there is a switch built-in to the device that will recognize and switch between 2.0-channel PCM, Bitstream, and TV EDID to match with the source. When selecting a 2-channel PCM output, the audio de-embedder can output analog stereo and digital S/PDIF simultaneously to separate devices.
question
Is the input on this device ARC compatible? I want to come out of the ARC port on my tv and plug the optical audio output into my receiver, which is audio-only.
This de-embedder is does not have ARC. Most TVs have optical audio output jacks, or something else.

Can I split the audio out of this and still allow the HDMI signal with audio to pass thru for internet streaming. I want to de-embed the audio so I can monitor the audio separately?
Yes, that should be possible. Audio is passed through the HDMI output still.

When this product receives a multi-channel signal ...
When this product receives a multi-channel signal (e.g. multi-channel PCM) from a source (e.g. Apple TV Gen 4), does it downmix the multi-channel signal (i.e. combine the channels) to produce the stereo (2 channel) analogue output, OR is the 2 channel analogue output simply the left and right embedded channels from the multi-channel extracted without downmixing?
Kanex does describe the process as down mixing. However they do not elaborate further on the exact method used.

question
Does it support HDMI Audio from a Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) source, outputting correctly to toslink (source such as Netflix or Google Play Movies coming in through Chromecast)? I've had trouble with my viewHD HDMI to toslink for center channel voice audio on the more recent movies that use DD+. No voice audio or center channel audio comes through the toslink.
The below links lists all of the formats supported by this unit for both HDMI input and the Toslink output. While a number of Dolby formats are supported, Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) is not on the list.http://bit.ly/1TLyRMB

question
I have 2 other units from other manufacturers that simply will not output 2 channel stereo when the hdmi input is 5.1. What are the requirements, if any, for the input signal, or will it just work no matter what the 5.1 format is? My goal is to take my TV's HDMI, and be able to output 2 channel to an amp for additional zones.
With this Audio De-Embedder the HDMI source must be set to accept PCM audio in order to de-embed to 2-channel stereo.
