Pigtronix EMT-U overview

  • 1Description

Designed for guitars, basses, or any instrument with a 1/4" output, the Tremvelope by Pigtronix is a pedal which gives you classic tremolo sounds with a twist—it allows your playing velocity to change the speed and the depth of the tremolo effect. The pedal itself employs an optical circuit for its tremolo, giving you stereo panning outputs should you want to oscillate between amplifiers or other audio destinations. Expression inputs offer you variable, external control of the tremolo’s speed and volume (or, in the case of stereo implementation, panning). A trigger input is provided, useful for syncing the effect to external audio paths, or for allowing a clean copy of your initial signal to trigger the device. Two LFO wave-shapes are possible—Sine and Ramp, selectable via the toggle switch.

Now we come to the envelope section, where the interactivity is introduced. A separate envelope footswitch provides the ability to instantiate this effect, and once depressed, your dynamics will now effect the ultimate response of the tremolo. The speed and depth knobs following your articulation to increase or decrease in value, depending on how hard you play. In this mode, each knob's initial placement represents a starting point for depth and speed. Then, depending on how you’ve set their corresponding toggle switches, the speed and depth values will either grow or abate in response to your playing. Switches are provided for both the Depth and Speed knobs, so that you can set one to increase in value while the other diminishes in effect. Acceleration and Sensitivity knobs provide further fine-controls over signal response. For a further explanation of features, please read on.

  • High-fidelity analog optical circuit
Knobs Explained
  • SENSITIVITY: This dial determines the amount of signal it takes to trigger the envelope. It can be used to determine how much the tremolo changes in response to picking dynamics. This control has a wide adjustment range to accommodate signal levels ranging from single coil pickups, humbuckers, and even active basses and line level recording equipment.
  • DEPTH: This knob controls the amount of LFO modulation.
  • SPEED: This dial controls the rate of the LFO.
Toggle Switches and Footswitches Explained
  • ENGAGE: This footswitch turns the entire TREMVELOPE on and off. When the engage light is turned off, the TREMVELOPE is bypassed.
  • ENVELOPE: This footswitch turns on Envelope control of the Tremolo effect. If both the SPEED and DEPTH toggle switches are set to off, the envelope mode will cause no change.
  • ACCELERATION: This toggle switch determines how quickly the tremolo will change depth and speed based on your playing.
  • DEPTH (MINUS / OFF / PLUS): This toggle switch determines how the tremolo depth will change when the envelope mode is selected.
  • SPEED (MINUS / OFF / PLUS): This toggle switch determines how the tremolo speed will change when the envelope mode is selected.
  • WAVEFORM: This toggle switch determines selects either sine or ramp wave-shapes for the LFO.
Connection Possibilities
The pedal provides a mono input and two 1/4" instrument outputs for stereo implementation. Also offered are a trigger input, for connecting external signals to the envelope follower, and TRS expression inputs for two different parameters: SPEED allows you to control, in a continuously variable fashion, the rate of the LFO with an external pedal. The VOL/PAN input allows you to use an expression pedal to control volume (in mono) and panning between connected devices (in stereo).
