Browning BTC 6HD 940 overview

  • 1Description

A dedicated camera designed to capture photos and videos of wildlife in a discreet manner, the Dark Ops 940 HD Trail Camera from Browning features a 16MP sensor that is capable of recording both still imagery and HD 1280 x 720p video.

The PIR motion sensor automatically triggers shooting in 0.4 seconds when a moving subject is detected within an 80' foot range, and when used at nighttime, the infrared LED flash will clearly record subjects within a flash range of 80' without spooking the wildlife. Timelapse Plus mode can be used to set predefined shooting intervals throughout the day while still shooting IR-triggered images and video, while Multi-Shot and Rapid Fire modes automatically record up to eight individual frames in quick succession to better ensure clear framing of moving subjects.

The imaging components are housed within a compact brown casing that blends into woods scenes for more inconspicuous shooting. The Dark Ops 940 HD can record both video and photos onto an SDXC memory card up to 512GB, and also features TV out and USB ports to help streamline offloading and playing back footage. It runs on either six user-supplied AA batteries or via an external power source that can be connected using the 12V power jack. A 1/4"-20 mounting socket permits attaching to a tripod or other stand or, alternatively, the included mounting strap can also be used to attach the camera to a tree or other post.

Motion Sensor
  • Passive infrared (PIR) sensor captures images in response to subject movement
  • 80' detection range
  • Fast 0.4-sec trigger speed
  • Picture delay programmable from 5.0 sec - 60 minutes
Video Recording
  • Records HD 1280 x 720p video with sound
  • Clips can range from 5.0 sec - 2.0 minutes in length
  • Field of View: 55°
  • Infrared LED flash with 80' range is invisible so as not to spook game
Interval Shooting
  • Timelapse Plus shooting mode captures images at pre-set intervals from sunrise to sunset
  • Selectable intervals are 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 sec and 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, and 60 minutes
  • Browning's supplied BuckWatch Timelapse Viewer Software for Windows enables you to see patterns and change over that period
  • Camera continues to work in motion-detection mode 24 h/day while timelapse mode is selected, ensuring that you don't miss opportunities for image capture between timelapse intervals
Continuous Shooting
  • Captures up to 8 images in Multi-Shot mode
  • Up to 8 images in Rapid Fire mode
  • Data strip displays time, date, temperature, moon phase, and camera ID
  • By showing the moon phase, the camera allows you to see which animals are inactive during full or nearly-full moon — when brighter lighting conditions make them more visible to predators. Moon phase also helps you determine if brighter or darker backgrounds in images are due to fullness of the moon
  • Photos and videos are recorded to optional SDXC memory cards up to 512GB
  • Camera includes SD card Memory Management option, which allows you to overwrite older images on the card if it's full
  • Runs on 6 user-supplied AA batteries
  • Can also be powered by optional external power supply connected to its 12V power jack
  • TV Out connector for viewing on a television screen
  • USB port for image transfer to your computer
  • 1/4"-20 threaded hole on bottom for connection to a tripod or tree/post mount
  • Mounting strap included for attachment to tree or post
  • Water/weather-resistant design

    Browning BTC 6HD 940 reviews

Dark Ops 940 HD Trail Camera is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from probably will buy another good image quality both color and nighttime. Main reason got this one is for use as a home security camera which will be run with an AC adapter and ignored unless there is a reason to check the images. This one will OVERWRITE the oldest images if that option is selected whereas many game or trail camera do not offer this option and simply shut down when the SD storage is full which would be useless for my needs. Even some similar camera of different brands do not offer the overwrite option which makes them useless for long term security/surveillance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from terrible quality This is my third (and likely last) Browning trail camera. The first died after 2 years, the second one just after the 1 year warranty expired. The picture quality has actually gone down from generation to generation. This one is a joke! No way in the world this has 16MP! Still photos at the highest resolution setting have the quality of an old 2MP cell phone, or worse. The videos at the highest quality setting are so grainy (especially at night, but also in daylight) that it's no fun to even watch them.
