Leupold BX-5 overview

  • 1Description

Sporting over-sized objectives, a powerful magnification, extra-low dispersion glass, and the proprietary Xtended Twilight (XT) Lens System, the Leupold 15x56 BX-5 Santiam HD Binocular, in Sitka Gear Optifade Sub-Alpine camouflage, delivers bright high-contrast images with true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing from long distances. Image quality is enhanced through the use of phase-corrected coatings on the prisms, and lenses made of lead-free high-transmittance calcium fluoride glass, which by their nature, limit reflection and increase color fidelity and contrast. The XT system complements the glass through the use of index-matched lens coatings that are specifically engineered for the calcium-fluoride lenses to raise the already high transmittance across the entire visible spectrum — with special emphasis on the blue and violet wavelengths that are most prevalent in low-light, such as at dawn and dusk and under heavily-canopied forests. Its large 56mm objectives gather generous amounts of light to further boost performance in less-than-ideal conditions.

Designed to stand up to a life lived outdoors, the optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to make them water and fogproof, even when moving through extreme temperature variations. The chassis is made from an aluminum alloy to make it lightweight and corrosion-resistant. And to further cut weight, providing users with more area to grip, Leupold employs an open-bridge configuration with a dual-hinge. For long-duration glassing sessions, or to reduce fatigue and visible hand-shake that are common with high-magnifications and large objectives, the Mojave can be mounted on a tripod or other support systems using the included adapter.

    Leupold BX-5 reviews

15x56 BX-5 Santiam HD Binocular (Optifade Sub-Alpine Camo) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Binoculars I've Ever Held Recently picked this up in the Sub-Alpine and all I can say is wow. They are simply the best binoculars I've ever used. Of course they are larger and heavier than the basic compact binoculars but they are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BX-5 Binoculars Looked at several different manufacturers binoculars in this size range. The BX-5's were the best I looked at. They are a great option to my 10x42 BX-4's for longer distance. Only complaint is the carry case is a bit tight and pulls the objective covers off when removing binoculars from the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Optics Wonderful optics. Bright & clear. Neck strap is extremely comfortable. Protective Case is too small; difficult to put optics away or retrieve. Had to buy different case to carry binoculars. Lens covers could be higher quality but they do the job. Don't know they'll last 20 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bx5 Santium I bought these for a elk hunt coming up and really like them it was between these and the vortex Kibab. I think the bx5's beat the Kiabab in every way and am very happy with the purchase.
