Lenovo X5-Z8550 overview

  • 1Description

The Lenovo 10.1" Yoga Book Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook is a Windows 10 Home system that doubles your creative experience with a 10.1" IPS touchscreen and a Create Pad surface, so you can take notes during brainstorming sessions as well as create detailed sketches while taking a break. The Create Pad surface functions as a Halo keyboard or a Wacom digitizer, which you can use to capture hand-written notes using the included Book Pad clipboard and Real Pen. The Halo keyboard lights up when in use, giving you a clear view the "keys" while typing out reports, and can shut off to provide a flat, touch-sensitive surface, offering 2,048 levels of pressure, to draw on.

Lenovo has armed the Yoga Book with a 360° hinge that allows you to use it as a notebook or a tablet. You can flip the display behind the keyboard to use the Yoga Book as a notepad on one side and a tablet on the other side. Flipping the display 90-degress from this position provides a you with a view of just the 10.1" display for watching shows and movies. Moreover, the Yoga Book can lay perfectly flat, so you can use the 10.1" display for quick access to editing commands and the Create Pad surface to draw.

The Yoga Book comes powered with an Intel Atom x5-Z8550 processor that has four cores, which operate at a stock speed of 1.4 GHz and can achieve speeds of up to 2.4 GHz while running demanding apps. To handle multiple programs simultaneously, 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM is on board. For long-term storage, the Yoga Book is outfitted with 64GB of storage along with a microSDXC card slot, which lets you expand its storage capabilities with a separately available memory card. In addition to Windows 10 Home, Lenovo provides additional software programs, such as a mobile version of Microsoft Office, ArtRage (Lite, trial), and Microsoft OneNote.

Aside from performance, you can relax by enjoying entertainment on the 10.1" IPS display that offers brightness levels of up to 400 nits, accurate colors, and wide viewing angles. This display offers a native resolution of 1920 x 1200, thanks to an integrated Intel HD Graphics 400 chipset. To complete the multimedia experience, two built-in speakers enhanced with Dolby audio technology surround you in sounds.

Other notable features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0 module for accessing the Internet and Bluetooth-enabled devices wirelessly. For wired connections, the Yoga Book is equipped with a microphone/headphone combo jack, a micro-USB port, and a micro-HDMI port. Moreover, you can capture your surroundings with an onboard rear-facing 8MP webcam as well as front-facing 2MP webcam.

Yoga Book Features

Note Saver and Real Pen Stylus with Real Ink
The Yoga Book includes a Real Pen that lets you write in ink on paper while digitizing your notes. This features allows you to write, edit, and organize your notes instantly. With the included Book Pad clipboard, your papers are magnetically kept in place. Moreover, Microsoft OneNote is available to make the Yoga Book operate similarly to a smart paper pad, which can be folded open for a natural way to take notes.
On-Demand Halo Keyboard Haptic Feedback
When you want to get serious work done, just open the Yoga Book in Type Mode. The Halo keyboard shows up on demand — only when you need it. The software-optimized keyboard auto-completes and auto-corrects as you type, letting you work quickly and accurately. Its haptic feedback (a slight vibration when you touch a "button") and keyboard shortcuts provide an experience that is similar to using a real keyboard.
Draw with the Real Pen
When the keyboard is turned off, the included Create Pad and Real Pen give you the precision and control you expect from a traditional pen on paper.

The Real Pen detects 2,048 levels of pressure-capturing subtle nuances of every stroke. Because it doesn't use batteries, the Real Pen works without ever needing a charge. You can be even more creative by using two hands: one on the screen to select tools, pan, and pinch-to-zoom, while the other uses the Real Pen to draw on the Create Pad.
Slim, Light, with All-Day Battery Life
The Yoga Book allows you to use your creativity wherever you are by featuring a thickness of 0.38" (4.05mm) when opened, weighing 1.5lbs (690g), and offering up to 13 hours of use on a single charge. Additionally, it is crafted with aluminum and magnesium.
Viewing Modes to Match Your Needs
With a hinge that opens 360°, the Yoga Book can be used in 4 modes to fit your lifestyle: lay-flat Create Mode for drawing and taking notes, Browse Mode as a compact 10.1" tablet, Watch Mode for entertainment, and Type Mode as a productive laptop.
Theater-Like Multimedia
This 2-in-1 tablet features a 10.1" Full-HD display and Dolby Audio Premium-enhanced speakers, which offer you an immersive surround sound experience.

Windows 10 Home Features

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Lenovo X5-Z8550 reviews

    10.1" Yoga Book Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 150.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Innovative product that exceeds my expectations. I've been using this tablet for a day now and I'm very impressed by how well it performs. It really approximates laptop performance but with the benefits of being very light and thin as well as having very good battery life. Also, having Android gives you access to millions of apps while still being potentially used for productivity. I don't type but I like the virtual keyboard. It's a much better experience than typing on the screen. I haven't used the stylus yet but that seems like a really neat feature. Finally, the Yoga style body is very useful for using it as a regular laptop, a tablet or to consume media in display mode. Overall, I really like this device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Product This may be the most useful electronic device that I have ever owned. I use it for studying, teaching, organizing, and communicating. The Halo keyboard is wonderfully designed. While some who have been taught the formal method of touch typing may have a slight learning curve, those who are self taught typists will immediately love it. The stylus works wonderfully, and makes note taking simple and intuitive. I have found no other device to be as flexible. If you are an artist, a teacher, or a student, this will be a powerful tool for you. Even if you are an average tablet user, you will be hard pressed to find anything better that the Yoga Book. Thank you, Lenovo developers, for designing such a useful device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portable device The Yoga Book is more of an extended tablet than a laptop. Think of the keyboard area as an extension of an on screen keyboard instead of a full replacement of a physical keyboard to get the most out of this device. Its unbelievably thin and light. Very good build quality and the hinge looks and works great. Battery life is fantastic on the Android version. I use the ink and notepad daily along with my usual Android apps. I considered the Windows version and am glad I went with the Android Yoga Book. With a bluetooth mouse and remote desktop and citrix I'm able to get my work done in Windows when I need to. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I Need in the Sexiest Little Package Firstly, I offer the disclaimer that my touch-typing speed was never that high, only about 55 wpm. That being said, after a couple of hours of practice, I can reach that speed on the book's halo keyboard no problem. This little machine runs like an absolute dream, with Windows snappy and responsive. I've tested the pen and drawing apps, everything works brilliantly, although it takes a little getting used to! It even runs some of the old games! On a long drive I managed to load up and play TES IV Oblivion no problem (recommend external controller or mouse though) When I'm on the couch I flip it to tablet mode, sometimes tilting the display up just a little to get that perfect viewing angle, but mostly I use it in laptop mode. Perfect everyday companion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super thin and stylish I have been hearing how some people dont like the whole touch keyboard thing. Its a great idea in my mind. Technology needs to go somewhere. My overall thoughts are that its great for productivity as wells as being artistic. Also I can load all my high end programs onto it and use it as my primary computer. I wish it had usb-c as wells as a few of them. also that the stylus has a pencil option with the pen option. Last thing is is also a great price. People are comparing the Yoga Book against $1300 machines. Thats a win in my mind for Lenovo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Mobile companion I am very pleased with this device. It's fast responsive, Good for work and entertainment. Screen is bright, good colors, My favorite feature is that I can use any metal object as stylus. I use my Parker pen . Hall keyboard also excees expectations. Fast responsive letters are big easy to use even in a dark setting. I didn't use it much as a drawing board with a stylus, that's more for creative people. But I tried it and it was also fun [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for College I've been using this for a few months for college. I love the stylus most of all. It is perfect for my stats class where a lot of the math and formulas are difficult to write and keep up with on a traditional laptop. (I tried.) I find myself keeping up in class which makes it easier to pay attention to the professor instead of trying to find the symbols from the formulas. It is also great for my other classes where extensive diagrams are used and I find it very easy to draw them. The pad feels pretty much like paper and does not pick up your hand for markings like many other tablets do. There is a little bit of a learning curve to the keyboard and pad, but now I am very used to it. I found it to be a little small in terms of storage but am pairing it with my older traditional laptop using Office 365 and it works beautifully. I have all of my notes at all times without having a bunch of paper and binders weighing me down. I love this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So lightweight and perfect on the go! I'm so used to my Mac that I had doubts whether I would love this for travel. It's perfect! I'm always on the go and this is easy to pack, to carry with me, and to use to take notes. Since I have an Android phone, the UI was super easy for me to use! I wish there were more case options for it and there was a place to attach the pen (I've lost it twice already) but other than that, it's amazingly simple, lightweight, useful, and easy to use. Very beneficial for business, college, or even high school! *I did receive compensation for my review, though all opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.
