Fantasea Line UWL-09F Overview

Get up close and fit more in the frame when photographing coral reefs, whale sharks, or schools of fish by adding Fantasea Line's UWL-09F Underwater Wide-Angle Conversion Lens onto your camera housing. Equipped with a 67mm mounting thread, the accessory lens is compatible with many ports on housings from various brands. Easily attached underwater, it increases your coverage significantly, offering a 130° angle of view when used with a 28mm camera lens.

The dome-shaped, 0.45x lens magnifies images to a lesser degree than a flat one does and corrects for the underwater size distortion that makes everything appear 25% larger and closer. The outer dome is crafted from hard-coated polycarbonate, and the lens features 5 glass elements with multi-layered, anti-reflection coatings as well. Built for durability, the bezel is constructed from a hard-coated aluminum alloy.

Optical Performance
  • Increases coverage, providing a 130° angle of view when used with a 28mm camera lens (35mm equivalent)
  • Counteracts decrease in angle of view that occurs beneath the water's surface
  • 5 multi-layered, anti-reflective elements in 5 groups provide excellent optical clarity, while eliminating chromatic aberration and flare caused by the sun or strobes/lights
  • Magnification: 0.45x
  • Dome magnifies images to a lesser degree than a flat front element does, and corrects for the underwater size distortion that makes everything appear 25% larger and closer
  • Allows for extremely close focusing
  • Great for over-under/split shots, where half the frame is above the water's surface and the other half is below it
Construction Details
  • Depth rating: 200'
  • Pre-mounted Type A adapter with 67mm threads for attachment to camera housing's lens port
  • Base of the mount is covered by a rubber ring to ensure a firm grip during attachment and removal

Fantasea Line UWL-09F Reviews

Fantasea has no customer suppo

I strongly caution anyone from ordering from Fantasea / AOI. Currently there is no customer support for the product line. If any equipment is defective outside of B&H's return period you will not be able to get it serviced. This lens had moisture seepage between the glass, was sent back to Fantasea in September and had still not been returned as of January with little communication from them.

Dome Port on a Flat Port Equals Garbage

Vignetting doesn't resolve until about 20mm (it's even buried some place on their web site that I missed). It's not a Wide Angle any more. I went to photo marine life on wrecks off North Carolina and photos are garbage unless you crop out about 40%. Like I said in the title, the flat port will automatically distort the outer part of the image and adding a dome port is just a waste of money.

I need to know if this Fantasea UWL-09F wet lens ...

I need to know if this Fantasea UWL-09F wet lens will work for surf photography/above water? I wasn't able to find the info from the related question below. If someone can give me a definitive answer, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a Sony RX100 VA camera.

The Fantasea Line UWL-09F Underwater Wide-Angle Conversion Lens is designed to be used underwater. If you try to use it for surface shooting you will get too much distortion and the images will not be sharp. For surf surface images you need to use a mirrorless camera or DSLR with a wide lens and dome port on the housing. The following would work great for surface surf photos: Fantasea Line FA6500 Underwater Housing and Sony Alpha a6500 Camera Body Kit. This includes the camera and housing: https://bhpho.to/2Rnuxbd Sony E 16mm f/2.8 Lens (Silver) is a good wide lens: https://bhpho.to/2bXJ8q1 Sony VCL-ECF2 Fisheye Converter For SEL16F28 and SEL20F28 will convert the 16mm to a fisheye lens: https://bhpho.to/2ZzS1N8 Fantasea Line 6" FML Dome Port A6 for Sony E 10-18mm f/4 or 16mm f/2.8 Lens is the dome you need to put on the housing: https://bhpho.to/2XiUeiR Fantasea Line FML Port Extension 25 has to go between the dome and the housing: https://bhpho.to/2MZiQZT Fantasea Line Light-Shielding Pad for Sony E 16mm f/2.8 Lens in Underwater Port will prevent reflections: https://bhpho.to/2IVbUrp if you need more help with any underwater imaging questions please email us at [email protected].

question

No specs are published. Will this work with the Sony housing for the RX100-V? I understand that it will fit (67mm) but what sort of results should be expected?

question

Will it work for even compact cameras (Canon g9x)? Or it has to be with a specific SRL camera?
Asked by: Tote V.
Its not the camera, its the housing that matters. If your housing has a 67mm thread, it should work. If the housing has a smaller opening, you would probably be better off with a wet lens that matched the diameter of the opening.
