Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 overview

  • 1Description

A convenient wide-angle zoom, this 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD Lens from Tamron is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount DSLRs, where it provides a 16-38.4mm equivalent focal length range. Benefitting the versatile range of perspectives is an advanced optical design that includes a pair of low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to suppress both chromatic and spherical aberrations for a high degree of clarity, sharpness, and color fidelity. A BBAR coating is also featured to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast when working in strong lighting conditions.

In addition to the lens's optical merits, it also sports a four stop-effective Vibration Compensation (VC) system to minimize the appearance of camera shake when shooting handheld. Also, an HLD autofocus motor is featured, and provides noticeably smooth, quiet, and quick focusing performance to suit both video and stills applications. The lens is also characterized by a moisture-resistant physical construction, and it has a fluorine coating on the front element to guard against dust, dirt, and smudging.

Covering a versatile range of wide-angle focal lengths, this zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount DSLRs, and provides a 16-38.4mm equivalent focal length range.
One XLD (extra-low dispersion) element and one LD (low dispersion) element are featured in the optical design to noticeably limit color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity, color fidelity, and apparent sharpness.
A molded glass aspherical element and a hybrid aspherical element are also included in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and realize greater sharpness and resolution while limiting distortions.
A BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating has been applied to suppress ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast when working in backlit conditions.
VC image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops for more effective handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions.
An HLD (High/Low torque modulated Drive) autofocus motor delivers especially smooth and near-silent focusing performance, and is also quick and responsive. This focusing drive also affords full-time manual focus override for fine-tuned control.
A sealed, moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
An electromagnetic diaphragm is used for more precise and consistent exposure control, especially when shooting at high continuous shooting rates.
Compatible with optional TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.

    Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 reviews

10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vibration Control in 10mm! Only lens to feature Vibration Control (Image Stabilization) in the 10mm range. You want to see smooth Gimbal moves - WOW! Silent. Heavy Duty build. Heavy with stiff movement. Which is better than the opposite. Love the Matte Finish look. Makes for no burnt fingers in the SoCal 120-degree sun. Focus is just slightly slower than my L-Series lenses. Focus is always spot on. However! Always a however. The lens loses focus in subdued lighting. Still works fine in Live View. Really use it for UltraWide B-Shots for location/shot placement. For me it works good. The Lens Shade needs a final twist to lock in place. Reversing the hood is the PITS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10mm / F3.5 / Vibration Control - Has it all Lens is Fantastic. Only lens that is close to F3.5 WITH 10mm WITH Vibration Control. So smooth on my Crane Gimbal with an SL1. No noise but slightly heavy. Quiet auto focus and very good build quality. Yeah, I know. It is made of Space Age Plastics. But it is built Heavy Duty. Do not associate this with your average kit glass. Has the feel of my L-Series Canon lenses. The zoom ring is to tight for me. But who cares! Tighter always loosens up. One tip though. The lens shade needs a 2nd twist push to lock on the lens. It seems to be just loose at first. Not there yet. Twist it a touch more and it stays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth Every Penny! I spend a lot of time reviewing and testingh gear. Using this lens, I tested with the Canon 80D, dual pixel af, and vlogged with it. Also, used it for tracking my face for videos. It's an amazing lens. Build quality is decent, snappy af, sharp photos end to end and only slight vignetting wide open. This is a must own lens to vlog with, not heavy, so easy to use for travel or on the street. The VC is great for stills and only at times gave a slight pulse when moving around with video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Real Estate Photography I have had this lens for approximately two weeks. I have used the predecessor to this lens for past 7 years for real estate photography. I anxiously awaited the release of this one with the upgraded optics and especially the image stabilization. I shoot 99% of my work hand held and the IS (or VC as its known in the Tamron world) comes in handy on a daily basis. It allows me to keep a larger DOF. I'll update my review as I continue to use it more, but so far, I'm very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but... First I want to say, this lens is extremely well-built and solid. Some of the really nice things about this lens are fast focus, sharpness, color rendering, and light weight. But there are two issues I'm having trouble with, the first is this lens over exposes by as much as 1/3 to 1/2 stop, compared to my Nikon lenses, and blows out some of the subtle highlights in some of my images. The second is, there is a very noticeable center distortion, which does not exist with my Nikon lenses and that includes my 18 to 105 kit lens. For the money, it's a nice lens, but if you're shooting professionally, interiors, architecture, etc. this may not be the right lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tamron's new 10-24 VC lens is a winner I recently purchased the new Tamron 10-24 wide angle zoom to my kit and am very happy with the results. I'd been shooting a similar wide angle without VC and what a difference it makes in a rapid response situation and in diminished light. The build feels good and the fact that the lens hood comes as part of the kit is refreshing, verses paying extra for the a hood. I would hilly recommend this lens to anyone who wants a sharp, quick and dependable zoom on the lower end of the lens range.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great if it would've worked I tried two copies with my little Canon Rebel and with both copies I kept getting error 99 codes. I did message Tamron and was told they weren't aware of any issues and to contact their service center but I opted to send it back to B&H for a refund and ordered a refurbished Canon 10-22mm.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not work on Canon C200 Lens seems to be well-constructed, but I could not get it to function on my C200. Would not auto-focus or control iris. Tested the lens on a Canon and a Sony (through Metabones adapter) still cameras and it seemed to work fine, so the lens itself is not a dud. Since I bought it to do gimbal work, I will be sending it back.
