Is this considered a Macro lens like the EF 100mm f/2.8, it doesn’t say Macro in the name like the 90mm?
Asked by: Robert
Hi. This is not a macro lens. It does have a feature for closer focus, and I like using it to photograph flowers. But it is NOT a macro lens.

question

How would the bokeh of this lens wide open compare with the 85/1.4GM?
Asked by: Anonymous
Softer and creamier than the 1.4 which I own. But at a cost of lower light transmission. Not as good in low light situations.

I got this lens earlier today. I'm getting ready to take it out and test it. But I can't seem to be able to access anything wider then f/5.6. How exactly, do I get their?

One can choose the aperture right on the lens and 5.6 is the largest aperture available. Is there a way to change it from the camera a7r3?

Unfortunately, the 100mm f/2.8 STF is not compatible with the 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverters. Only lenses with recessed rear lens elements and compatible lens barrels are suitable. These lens currently (5/24) are: FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS

Can u use this for birding if the bird is close?
Asked by: Peggy
The Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS Lens has a minimum focus distance of 1.87 feet (57 cm) and can focus out to infinity. As long as the bird you wish to photograph is within the above distance ranges and the focal length is adequate for your framing needs, then yes, the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS Lens would be compatible for your birding usage needs.

How is the sharpness and bokeh of this vs the 90mm macro? Assuming good lighting for both.
Asked by: James
This 100mm lens is a GM lens--Sony's top line of lenses; the 90mm is a G lens, the next tier down, so the 100mm would be a better lens.
