Kanex K166-1102 overview

  • 1Description

The MultiSync Wireless Keyboard for Mac & iOS from Kanex is a full-sized and low-profile keyboard that can be paired with up to four Windows, Mac, iOS, Apple TV, and Android devices, as well as other smartphones and tablets that are compatible with a wireless Bluetooth 3.0 connection. Once paired, MultiSync Bluetooth keys allow you to toggle between each connected device with one-touch switching. As this keyboard employs Bluetooth technology, it does not require a receiver to be installed on your host system. It operates using a rechargeable 1200mAh lithium-ion battery that can last for up to six months before recharging is required. Once the battery is depleted, it can be recharged using the included micro-USB cable. This keyboard also features a Mac layout, a numeric keypad, and hotkeys.

General Features

Sync Between Four Bluetooth Devices
MultiSync technology makes it easy for simple one-touch switching between four devices. Just pair your devices and start toggling. Bluetooth 3.0 technology means you don't have to take up USB ports with wireless receivers. Setup is easy, and no installation or drivers are required.
Mac, iPhone, and iPad
All of the familiar Mac keys and shortcuts are here. It features a full numeric keypad so you can easily enter numbers, and arrow keys are convenient for scrolling through documents and playing games. You can also adjust screen brightness and volume, as well as play and pause video and audio with single-touch focus keys.
Rechargeable Battery
The Kanex MultiSync Wireless Keyboard has a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery with a 1200mAh capacity, which is enough to keep you typing for up to 6 months. It comes with a micro-USB cable, so when you're ready to charge, simply plug it into a wall adapter to power up. Power levels can be checked with the touch of a button, and an LED indicator will blink when the battery is low. This keyboard's charging input is 5.0V / 1.0A.

MultiSync Wireless Keyboard for Mac & iOS is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT FOR EDITING, or for anything above casual use After using this product for about a week, i've found multiple issues. 1. The numerical enter key is misprogrammed so it acts as the return key. normally a non-issue but in editing in premiere, i'm unable to move around my timeline based on timecode. every time i type in a timecode and hit enter, the return key function performs and there's no way to remap the keyboard to fix it. 2. issues with transmitting multiple same-key strokes. another issue in dropping markers and labelling them in premiere, but annoying in other settings as well. 3. Connection drops in and out for no reason. 4. the "silver backing" that appears here is just a sticker over the plastic casing of the keyboard. Mine started bubbling up between keys immediately and refuses to stick down. Overall, this keyboard was made without true consideration for the functionality. If you just need a whatever wireless keyboard it's fine. But I'm going to look for another option and would use up a USB port on my computer over continuing to use this janky thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less $ then the Apple product and very comparable, recommend Synced just fine to my mac first time, I haven't charge it yet and its been a couple weeks, all working perfectly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No Hardwire With the previous model there was connection for USB as well as 3 other Bluetooth connection. Looks like they no longer offer that model. It was nice to have a USB connection just incase and of cpus with out Bluetooth.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Constantly disconnects The keyboard looked and felt "ok" but not for something in that price range. It had no detectable lag but had an annoying habit of disconnecting frequently, and not only when it was not in use, sometimes it would do it during a slight pause in typing and sometimes, it would not reconnect, requiring it to be re-paired with the computer. I purchased this because I needed a full keyboard but having it drop connection and having to reconnect is counter productive

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Actually better than expected With a laptop, a production desktop, smartphone and tablet all surrounding my desk it's really a very cool single click option on the keyboard, I have full access to any of those machines. No issues with any keys which have a great feel and response time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasted 8 Months I bought this keyboard eight months ago when I also bought a new Apple Mac Mini to replace my six year old iMac. It seem like a good idea for several reasons. First it had the integrated numeric keypad which was not yet available from Apple or at least not sold by B&H. There was also the capability to pair with four different bluetooth devices and switch between them with the press of a button. And a big reason was the price difference between the Kanex keyboard and the Apple keyboard which at the time I bought it was a 40% savings. But then reality began to set in. Every time I turned on my Mac, I had to press the selection button for the Mac or another button and wait for the keyboard connection indication before I could log in. Then, I would frequently get a connection loss indicator and would have to press that Mac button or another button to wake the keyboard up. Constantly doing that every time you use your computer gets real old real fast. I was also getting constant typos when I typed in everything. At first I thought it was just my less than stellar typing until I realized the typos contained letters that were at the opposite end of the keyboard. Yesterday, I turned on my Mac and nothing. No matter what key I hit, nothing registered. So,I tried switching the keyboard to my iPad; still nothing. Just stopped working after eight months and two days.
