Does white box mean white lens?

The lens works exactly as advertised. Used to make videos out of the box and it's definitely quiet -- completely silent. And Fast. Received a white lens, although photo shows black lens. It's a minor gripe, but it affected my rating by 1 star and might drive some people bonkers FYI...
Lens does not support 65 focus point on Canon 7D II

I called Canon USA to verify this and they confirmed after a quick test that the lens with most recent firmware of 1.0.1 and 1.1.3 on body does not support 65 AF points at F4 that the camera is capable of. Only 45 AF points are supported and of those, only the middle group of 25 AF points are cross type, the outer 10 on each side are vertical or horizontal only. This is a major limitation of this lens. I have the 18-135 mm USM Nano also, and that lens has all 65 AF points active in full cross type mode with the 7DII body. None of the reviews I have seen on the internet about this lens have pointed this out and it is not mentioned in the Camera or Lens manuals. I still like this lens as it has decent image quality, is very light weight, decent image quality, very effective IS (I can hand hold up to 1/2 second at 55 mm) and very fast and quiet USM Nano focusing motor.
Good value for a light and compact zoom lens

Image quality is inferior to the 18-135 even with image corrections applied, but for the size, weight and cost, this is a good value. My use case is indoor and some outdoor around the house picture taking and did not want to damage or carry the weight of the 135 zoom. Taking one star off for build quality and use of plastic mount. In volume, adding a metal mount should cost no more than a $5 and Canon chose to keep more profit than offer a metal mount which would be more durable.

Great kit lens. Auto focus is insanely fast; blink & you'll miss it. As others noted, focusing wheel could be a tad wider...but that doesn't affect operation. Image stabilization is too notch. I took the photo below as I came to a crossroad from inside an idling (vibrating)18-wheeler big-rig semi truck. Sharp as a tack.

Fine Lens - good value

This is a fine lens providing good value and performance for the price, especially if you buy it used or in a white box removed from a kit package. It is reasonably quiet, smooth operating, quick to focus accurately, steady and reliable over time. While it is not a macro lens and close ups are limited, it shoots close enough to show details on small plants, flowers, and other small items (like a watch or other small object) - especially useful for shooting images for eBay listings. If you need to get closer, buy a macro lens! While it is neither a super wide angle, nor a telephoto lens, it has just enough (approx 3x more or less) wide-to-tele zoom range to be useful as a family even and travel lens. Just enough to get the whole church in the picture without walking back too far, and also capture some of the detail, like those interesting gargoils on the parapit, without climbing a ladder.
Thus, it is a good, low cost, versatile lens for daily use. Professionals may spend more for faster, higher quality glass, and consumers may eventually outgrow the limited, basic zoom range - but this is a low cost, reliable, every day lens with good sharpness and modest distortion at the extremes - it will serve well in al most any situation. Rare cases require rare, highest quality lenses. Average shooting calls for an affordable, good quality, reliable lens you can afford to use and replace someday. (PS - I own several L-Series lenses for professional jobs - and use this lens with great satisfaction much of the time, especially when traveling or shooting family events - it is plenty good - forget all that nonsense and disregard the advice to throw away the kit lens - this is a GOOD lens for most applications - there is nothing wrong with the kit lens!) - Good luck!
