Sony A1E overview

  • 1Description

View content at four times the resolution of 1080p with the Sony A1E-Series 65"-Class HDR UHD Smart OLED TV. It has a 64.5" OLED display, and incorporates Sony's Motionflow XR technology to digitally enhance fast-moving images to reduce blur. The A1E-series has built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity to allow access to the Google Play store, your favorite apps, and Internet-based content via its Android TV operating system, plus content sharing and screen mirroring with your other compatible smart devices such as your smartphone or tablet. The Opera web browser is also available for download through the Google Play store.

With four HDMI inputs, there are multiple options for connecting high-definition video sources. A composite video input is also available for connecting legacy equipment, while three USB ports are onboard for connecting compatible multimedia peripherals like flash drives.

Note: Content acquired via certain apps may require subscription to a service.

Enhanced Contrast and Black Levels
Sony's OLED TV is designed to produce enhanced black, shadow, and color. Over 8 million self-illuminating pixels are individually controlled by the X1 Extreme processor, helping to create an exquisite, unprecedented contrast.
Designed for Pure Black
OLED pixels work individually and can be turned off completely to deliver absolute black levels, helping to reveal enhanced detail, depth, textures, and colors.
Enhanced Detail with 4K HDR
Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers enhanced detail, color, and contrast, with a wider range of brightness than other video formats.
4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme
Sony's 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme is designed to outperform their 4K Processor X1 with 40% more real-time image processing power. It takes everything you watch and upscales it to near-4K HDR quality. Object-based HDR Remaster technology can detect, analyze, and optimize each object in the picture individually to adjust the overall contrast for a more natural and realistic picture.
Dual Actuators for a Unique Acoustic Experience
Rather than traditional speaker drivers, the A1E-series uses dual actuators that vibrate the OLED screen itself to produce sound.
Vibrant Colors and Smooth Gradations
Colors are designed to be as rich and vivid as nature's own with TRILUMINOS Display technology, with more shades of red, green, and blue. Also, 4K HDR Super Bit Mapping reveals thousands of shades and gradations of light, for sunsets as bright and clear as real life.
360° of Design
This OLED TV is designed so that the stand and speakers virtually disappear.
Powered by Android TV OS
From movies and TV shows to thousands of apps, the Android TV OS (Android 6.0 Marshmallow) is designed to brings you your favorite content in an instant. Cast your favorite apps with Google Cast, and Voice Search helps you find the entertainment you want. And with Google Home compatibility, simply voice-control your TV and ask it to do things, like play your favorite YouTube videos.
Near-4K Upscaling
Two image improvement databases work together to dynamically improve images in real time; 4K X-Reality PRO upscales images to near-4K clarity, while a second database is designed to clean the picture and reduce on-screen noise. Every pixel is enhanced by the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme.
Live TV with No Annual Contract
PlayStation Vue allows you to enjoy live TV streaming, including sports, news and more, from your favorite networks, with no annual contract and no surprise fees.
Motionflow XR Helps Keep the Action Smooth
Sony's Motionflow XR refresh rate technology enhances the OLED's panel speed to allow fast-moving action sequences in sports and movies to be seen with enhanced clarity.
Just Say What You Want
Spend less time browsing, and more time watching. Voice search on Android TV provides you with the power of Google search in 42 languages, allowing you to find content across different services without the hassle of time-consuming text entry.
Send to a Bigger Screen with Chromecast built-in
Send movies and music from your smartphone to your TV with Chromecast built-in, plus you can use your phone as a remote control.

    Sony A1E reviews

A1E-Series 65"-Class HDR UHD Smart OLED TV is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OLED Might Need a Few More Years Good picture? Yes... but it could be brighter. Considering that OLED's are supposed to dim over time, this comes set to maximum brightness out of the box and it already needs to be a bit brighter. Some things look fantastic but a lot of content is just good, really depends on how the source was filmed. I've watched new 4K content from Netflix that didn't look as good as 1080p... so you're at the limits of the producers. As for the rest of the TV, sound is actually acceptable to me, but I wasn't expecting much. The operating system seems to work well. It's a good TV but at its price point it really needs to be better much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good, it's jaw-dropping Coming from several Panasonic plasmas (last being the ST60), no LCD/LED TV was going to be satisfactory, including the Sony Z9D. Having carefully considered the more affordable LG B6/E6 OLED, I ruled it out due to the poor handling of near-black tones; that unit essentially lost fine detail and made everything black. Having been to Sony Square NYC and seeing the 65 A1E made it clear it's a must-have TV. The 75 Z9D adjacent to it looked like an ordinary washed-out screen in comparison. The price of the A1E is tougher to swallow than the B6 but after having it for the last few days, it's been everything I've wanted from a new high-end TV. It doesn't feel like an immature new tech. which OLED was for many years, but rather like a perfected plasma TV- on-screen material looks very real, very bright next to large windows during the daytime (plasmas required blackout curtains) yet still having deep blacks thanks to excellent control of reflections, without any purple hint, and using much lower wattage. Most new 4K HDR TV units will look great displaying 4K HDR content, but there's not much of that content yet and Sony did a great job in upscaling 1080p and non-HDR material to take advantage of this the A1E's capabilities. So good that Apple TV (1080p-only) feels like it's 4K with anything thrown on this TV. So good that you'll want to re-watch movies and shows, replay PS4 games (Overwatch in 1080p looks very sharp), etc. Sound quality coming from the glass is also deeply impressive for a TV, even when the TV is wall-mounted (make sure to change an audio setting to optimize it for wall-mounting), with the integrated sub adding nice impact. I have a ST-5000 soundbar pre-ordered, for that theatrical sound experience, and initially did not think much of the speakers outside of temporary use until the soundbar is installed; but it's really good, it hurts a bit to turn it off. Turning on the A1E feels like a special occasion each time. Grab one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Picture Quality. 4 HDMI inputs Picture quality looks good with dark blacks. It wants to be your media star unless you already have one. Recent software update is causing a loud audio tone/buzz on some frozen or information HDMI video from my TiVo. Nice to have multiple HDMI inputs for all the sources.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony A1E-Series 65 After I figure out how to adjust "play" with the black color. W/o this black color adjustment it just looks another expensive TV This TV just surprised me the quality of the picture and so on.... Happy customer I would buy it again
